The Father (2020)

I gave this film a wide berth for a while as I had been caring for my dad with dementia for a couple of years around that time. Everything about it is well-executed. I wonder if it might be a good primer for family members not knowing what to expect when someone close gets dementia, partly because I felt it conveyed well the confusion the person with the condition experiences. I've wondered if having dementia is like waking from a traumatising dream, half-remembered tendrils of untruth from the dream warping one's point of view, and the act of trying to find your feet with reality again, just all day long.

Emotionally, it was hard work. Not a film I'll be coming back to, but if you enjoy decent actors hitting performances out of the park without all the usual hollywood drama, you might want to check it out.

The Sopranos (1999), S1 - S4

I'm watching S5 because my brother assures me that it gets better, but that meme regarding Game of Thrones with the picture of the horse that steadily turns from extremely well-drawn to a stick figure towards the final season IMO applies here too. S1 and S2 were engaging, S3 and S4 really dragged, went nowhere and were rather soapy.

Dunkirk (2017)

Presented in 5p/70mm Ultra Panavision. I always forget how insanely good this can look especially in the hands of an absolute film lunatic like Nolan who also largely sticks to practical effects when possible. I just wish he'd make the dialogue, what little there is, actually intelligible. Though did actually catch this time that the old man with the boat's name was "Dawson" which is a nice nod to Jim Cameron.

is anyone else here watching Alien: Earth ?

just a quick note, because, i asked GPT 5 to do some calculations for me, and realistically the slowest possible speed that a spaceship - WITHOUT thrusters, literally just a block of steel - could fall out of orbit onto the earth is about 1500kmph, or idk circa 900mph.
I don't understand why scriptwriters just refuse to hire any kind of realism consultant. I get it that a scene needs to be right for the screen, but, if the scene isn't, and on top of that it's just visibly wrong, then why ?

idk, show isn't horrible just yet, but it's not giving me great vibes. spaceship crashes and of course they send in THE ARMY. WITH GUNS. just in case you need to shoot the flames, or fight the survivors.

I did, too early to tell, probably need to watch the streaming version. The first episode had ALOT of commercial breaks that pushed it to a hour and a half broadcast time, E2 was about 1:15.

Like T Olyphant, but still too early to tell. Especially with the timeline being before the 1979 film. Feels disjointed or that its expected to stand on it's own or alone.

Yeah nah, i won't be watching any more of this shit.

1. alien looks like ass
2. just too many "stupid decision" on part of everyone, from humans, to the alien, to the androids.
3. mediocre, uninspired direction that makes everything seem slower and tedious
4. literally a child in an adult body to explain a completely idiotic protagonist
5. realism LOL

this is Rings Of Power for the Alien franchise. I liked Romulus but this is just a no from me.

watch just 3 minutes of this video, between 23 minutes and 26 minutes.

or, don't. this is simply not a show of importance. everyone is stupid, everything is stupid, and even the visual aspects are done poorly.

I've only watched the second episode because i'm waiting out a 3-day ban on Reddit. All i did was mention that billionaire are, in fact, flammable - how is that bad !

In The Hand Of Dante - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1333644/reference/

6.5/10 - not the worst thing i've seen this year.
I watched it because of you.

Almost 160 minutes of it. I have no idea why they went to such great lengths to work hard on this movie like they were sure that they were telling a story worth being told. It was NOT.

I had hopes that it would be something like The Ninth Gate. It was NOT.

The only redeeming scene was Oscar firing off shots like Han Solo. This should've been a 2 hour long action movie.

My score 4/10

Please, no one else waste your time.
