Does this have anything to do with the Bruce Willis "The Jackal"? Out of curiosity.
maybe. I've never watched the Bruce Willis version, but according to wikipedia it is "a loose take on the 1973 film The Day of the Jackal, which was based on the 1971 novel of the same name by Frederick Forsyth."

I watched

Damsel - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13452446/reference/

Semi-decent fantasy-action film where Millie Bobby Brown is the titual damsel, married into royalty and then sacrificed to a dragon (to save the skin of the *real* royals).
Following the "sacrifice" (which involves unceremoniously throwing down a well the bride) she has a rather protracted fight scene where she tries to survive the dragon, during which she grunts, screams, tumbles, gets all dirty and sweaty, and i gotta say, i was not immune to her charms.
Otherwise, it's full of every fucking trope you can think of, so unless you really want to oogle MBB for an hour or so, feel free to replace this film with literally any other film with either a damsel or a dragon. or angelina jolie.

6/10 because sex reasons. And it's fairly decently made, but it's just so damn mid.

Don't disappoint Millie with that score! :p

Watch the Bruce Willis Jackal. I thought it was above average for its era. Actually, I think I saw Mercury Rising and Jackal before Die Hard. Die Hard was obviously super fun but those two movies I saw before had my mind rate Bruce Willis as one of those actors whose movies I would watch for a long time afterwards without reading any reviews.

And gotta love the scene with Jack Black, testing the new gun.

Payback (Director's Cut) (1999)

The theatrical release in my opinion is a nice little action flick with a bit of style and a nicely wrapped-up plot.

I recently decided to replace my DVD copy with a BR that had both versions, so I've just watched the DC for the first time (I think it's called the "Straight Up" edition sometimes too). One very strange thing is that DCs tend to be longer than their theatrical release counterparts whereas this is nearly 20 minutes shorter even though it has additional scenes (with some cuts obviously).

The DC is a substantially reworked version. It's interesting to watch if you liked the original movie, but IMO it's not an improvement. The things it changed were things I liked about the original, like the film noir style colour palette and musical style. The B&W-ish palette is replaced with standard colour, but it's the music that is the real kicker here, in the original the music is well-chosen and flows nicely with the movie. In this version, the musical style is uninspired, confused and at times gets a bit tacky with "menacing" incidental music. Not quite shocked-meerkat DUN DUN DARRR style, but the kind of thing I would expect from some tacky 80s drama series.

One thing I thought was interesting about the DC is that the protagonist is cast more as a ruthless, violent, and not a particularly nice guy but I think they needed to go somewhere further with it, it's like an idea that was picked up and dropped after a while. In the theatrical cut he's more like a knight in shining armour (for the ladies) who also happens to be a crook, perhaps a little trite and Hollywood (ie. the good guy has to win and the bad guy has to lose).

Overall I think the theatrical cut is quite a bit better. The lead female character is made good use of, whereas in the DC it looks like she takes a logical exit from the story with no reason to return then she's suddenly back.

This is a hard watch for anyone with a short attention span. But your patience will be rewarded with cool visuals, some decent acting and a bonkers story.

Watch only if you have time to kill and want to experience something different.

I am sorry, a movie that have actors pretend to be in a play just plain sucks.

The TV show EVIL, on paramount or CBS, is decent, if you like the heaven hell stuff. I play Diablo so.. I'm a sucker for that. 7/10.

Has that one guy from Lost in it. Plays a bad character in some other shows as well. Watched first 2 seasons on Netflix, then found there are 4 on Paramount+.

Michael Emerson plays such a good creepy bad guy.

The Soul Eater - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt28821588/reference/

A French-language, extremely dull by-the-numbers cop film where they hunt a maniac in the french alps, but while they do dark, gritty and realistic, there is nothing interesting in anything, be it script, acting, characters, plot, just really dull and uninspired. So bad it doesn't even have its own wikipedia page.

At least she didn't whine and cry the "whole' movie this time.

Always been my problem with her.

Like the creepiest. Can't tell if he is doing therapy with a demon or it's in his head. Until I saw S3.

Watched "Virus" Netflix. 6/10 Pretty sure it's voice dubbed. Or I'm thinking of the Furies show. Either way, Might watch again if I forgot I had watched it before. Same with the movie "Clown" I think I seen that before. 4/10 not worth the time spent unless your being paid during that time, or have time to burn.

in preparation for The Day Of The Jackal, i watched

The Day Of The Jackal - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069947/reference/

the 1973 original.
Oh boy.
When i started watching, i thought "uhm, this film has some good pacing. Stuff happens at a fairly rapid rate and we've already set up a good backstory for the main plot".
The the plot keeps advancing, and then it keeps advancing, and, then i notice that i'm half an hour in of a 2h20m film.
Yeah because TDOTJ needs to tell you eeeevery bit of the story in detail.

Edward Fox (who's only had minor roles since) is The Jackal, a british (it's relevant) assassin at the pay of a group of french ultranationalists, who want Charles De Gaulle, the airport guy, assassinated for having granted independence to Algeria.
The Jackal takes on the mission and moves first to Rome, then around the world to gather his gear and set up a plan for the assassination. At the same time the secret service of half of europe is looking for him, but since he's just one guy, it's not exactly easy to find him, with 1960s technology.

I thought the film was ok; i loved seeing the french riviera, and rome, back before everything was neon and publicity posters, before traffic, and found the plot and acting to be interesting, but not two-and-a-half-hours interesting. I guess watching it with friends would probably alleviate a bit the pressure, but who's got friends nowadays, amirite?

Currently at a high 7.8/10 on IMDb, i wouldn't go higher than a 6.5/10. The intricacies of the plot is what made the book great (allegedly) so i'm not sure it could be cut in any sensible way. And frankly, the whole film is shot in a way that we're kinda rooting for the bad guy, when said bad guy gets killed just before he can complete his mission, it kinda sucks.
I had to give you a like for, "Charles De Gaulle, the airport guy." :)

They've been playing James Bond movies on Prime all week (through Freevee). They are 'live' so no pause or starting over; and of course with that channel you have commercials. I started watching as the Roger Moore era came on. A highlight is The Spy who Loved Me IMO. Had another look at the one with Lazenby, pretty cool this time around. I always liked the two with Timothy Dalton, although not going to argue he was one of the better actors to play the part.

They played several movies with Pierce Brosnan, which I think are pretty decent. I really like Daniel Craig as Bond, and not just because they are more modern films. But they didn't get into the newer stuff. Now they're back to the early Connery era.

Moana 2 - 8/10

It's just overall got a very similar story/arc to the first movie and the songs aren't quite as much of a hit as the first one (as expected IMO), but it was still a very fun and enjoyable movie and the animation is even more impressive than the first one. Once the movie started it just never stopped and it went by very quickly because it was enjoyable.

On another note, it was nuts how many previews and crap are before movies now a days. It was my first movie in the theater in a couple years. The movie start time was 3:30pm and it was 3:56 when it actually started. The actual movie is about exactly 90 minutes.

I think they purposely do that because people aren't very punctual and maybe they try to "enhance" the customer experience by letting as many people be on their seats as possible before starting the movie. I'm used to about 15 minutes of crap time before a movie but yeah, 26 minutes is very excessive! They should mention the start time of the movie clearly in that case.

Batman: Hush (2019)

Artwork: Not great. This 'Western anime' look that seems to be doing the rounds in the DC animated verse is very mediocre IMO.
Voice actors: Not the heavy hitters like Kevin Conroy or Mark Hamill. I assume KC was busy dying of cancer in 2019. The voice acting is so-so, just about competent and didn't draw me in at all.
Main plot was engaging enough. Where it left Selina's and Bruce's relationship didn't make a whole lot of sense IMO.

One of the best, if not the very best, portrayals of Batman's "menace" and ingenuity, is the season finale of the first season of Titans. The whole season is pretty great on its own but they knock it out of the park with the finale, IMHO. The later seasons have some good episodes but overall, the quality of the writing declines with time. Anyone with even a passing interest in the DC Universe, owes it to themselves to watch Titans S01.

Am I Racist - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt33034103/reference/

Matt Walsh/Justin Folk's latest creationg, whose Lady Ballers i thought was actually good, but it's just a mockumentary in the style of Borat, except it's a shitton of punching down and some really sad laughs. What Is A Woman was (slightly) better, but it's more of the same. There's no point in saying "nameless goon of the LGBT movement said something dumb HA HA HA" if you are cherrypicking the worst exponents of an already distressed part of society.
