Django

no no no, *not* Django. but

Django - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060315/reference/

The 1966 Sergio Corbucci italian original.

After the civil war, Django returns from the front, carrying a coffin behind him. He arrives in a small frontier town where he clashes with The Major, a southener who shoots mexicans for fun. Django makes short work of his men, both because he has lightning-fast reflexes, and maybe also because of the giant fuck-off Gatling gun he carries in his coffin.
This is a "subtle" plan to force The Major to run to the border, to deposit his gold in the only fort in the area - a fort where Django plans to break in, with the help of mexican revolutionary Hugo.

It bad. It's crude. It's pulp. It's violent in a dumb way that would make any 15yo cry in excitement.

Idk, it's a piece of history. The theme song is glorious. And it's fun to see how little we needed to amuse ourselves.

6.5/10 - only for collectors.

Oh I saw that in the 1980's.

There are some other good Italian movies about America.. or how they imagine it to be.. generally called macaroni combat movies.. or spaghetti westerns.. (the Good, the Bad, The Ugly)

Delta Force Commando (1987)
Commando Leopard (1985)
Last Blood (1983)
Viper (1988)

You'll LOL your way through them.. they're so bad.. they're actually good!

Apparently wiki has a list of them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro_War

I don't find Ellie that annoying in TLOU S02. She's OK. In fact, she not being in rage seems uncharacteristic of her. I expected a scene where she would be breaking stuff in anger but she's just chill.

Babylon A.D. - 3/10

Vin Diesel action flick, fun brainless throwaway action flick. Like if Children of Men & Triple-X had a baby, except they had a deadline & forgot to finish it. The director publicly disavowed it, blaming studio interference:

It's sort of like Transporter, but from dystopian Russia to NYC. It felt like it had a lot of promise, but got cheesy (snowmobile stunts) & then lost the plot by the end. The submarine part was pretty dope tho:

I think it would have been better as a high production-value mini-series that could really tell the story. I wouldn't mind seeing it remade & done right! There was a little bit of the Hunger Game's rich-capital vibes going on & that would have made for some cool backstory, because the religious pre-planning aspect was kind of like Dune & needed more story-time to flesh it out, but set in the not-too-far-future. The ending was a bit like Oblivion, but was crazy rushed lol. Order a pizza, scroll on your phone, and enjoy a silly action movie!

On a tangent:

Donald Trump announced on Sunday a 100% tariff on all movies produced outside the United States

The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death. Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other areas within the U.S.A., are being devastated. This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda! Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands. WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!

The California governor doubled the Film & TV tax credit program last year:

I wonder if this will work, or if it will have a Writer's Strike effect...

Just finished Breaking Bad with the GF. It's my third time watching it and her first. It's really a top-tier show - up there with MASH, Firefly, and Columbo. There isn't a bad episode, not even a mediocre one. At worst there are slow spots. Going to watch El Camino next. I've been warned that Better Call Saul is way slower, so I'm not sure if I'm going to subject her to that.

But the character of Saul is wayyyyy better and funnier. He keeps you guessing on what he's gonna do next. The slowness can be blamed on the writers. They went with making certain episodes very cryptic and you are just left wondering, is this pre-Breaking Bad or post-Breaking Bad or what??? Saul as a character is a very patient conman too.

I'm sorry but the Fly episode was awful.

I DIDN'T HATE IT

According to creator Vince Gilligan, this "bottle episode" was produced because the season was already "hopelessly over budget," and therefore it became necessary to create an episode with minimal production costs. By filming in one location and using the fewest number of actors in the series ever, a bottle episode costs substantially less than the average episode.

...

This episode aired the same day as the series finale of Lost on ABC, implying that they did not want to compete with the latter show's viewing numbers.

Yo, Gatorade me!

It's the weakest episode and was apparently directed by Rian Johnson who directed the worst Star Wars thing I've ever seen, which is saying something because I don't even like the "good" Star Wars. Still, I thought it was pretty good. Different tone for sure.

It's probably not as bad when you binge watched it. But waiting a week for the next episode and then that fly episode is all you get, it was very disappointing. I thought it sucked too when I binge watched it with my wife for her first viewing.

Oh, you skipped Episode Nine? Lucky.
Heh, like I said, I'm not a fan in general, but The Last Jedi was so very bad that I won't even watch Star Wars stuff out of morbid curiosity anymore. I also want to point out that I was hating on Star Wars before it was cool.

see this is my we cannot agree. to me the worst star war.. bleeeurgh im sorry i cannot go on.
I understand your take on the SW fiction NOW, after I saw what Disney did to it. The list was so long that I kept scrolling for 25 minutes and it did not end. They diluted it 1000X, like homeopathy.

The issue is two-fold:

1. They have to cater to Star Wars adults (OG SW kids) AND the new crop of Star Wars kids (toy sales! haha), so it needs to be kid-friendly, but also interesting enough to satisfy adult fans, so they have to water down the story

2. They have to cater to the American AND International markets, so they have to water down the story

I've seen Alfonso Cuarón floated as a wishlist SW director. He did Children of Men, Gravity, and HP: The Prisoner of Azkaban. Could be good!

i watched the very very good

El Eternauta - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27740241/reference/

Spanish-language, 6 episodes Netflix series.

In Buenos Aires, a group of locals are caught in a strange blizzard. This turns out to be some apocalyptic scenario, with the dead littering the street.

All in spanish, with good quality subs.

Excellent acting, and very different in style than what you get from your typical Hollywood script.

Very solid SciFi recommendation, and it's 6-and-done, so you don't need to wait for years for the show to never come to a conclusion.

my vote: 7.5/10
