meh, still not enough to sway my vote from a MacBookPro. I like the WSXGA+ and I definitely like the price, but aesthetically it just can't compare to the Apple.

No sorry....Macs are not good! THey suck! ANd they are not appealing to the eye in my opinion. Seriously, if you do not like the look of your laptop, wrap it in a laptop case thing! They sell those!

I agree, but you gotta compare apples to apples. The N100 is a budget Core Duo notebook; look at a T60 or the dual core Z-series when they are updated and then compare :)

True...the Apple MacBookPros really can't compete in price/performance ratio category. It almost looks like Lenovo is trying to edge into Dell's territory. They'll have their business lineup in the Thinkpad line and their consumer lineup in these N100's and Z60's, etc. Lenovo could give Dell a run for their money. I've always thought IBM needed better (ie flashier and more marketable) consumer options, rather than their R and X series. To me, I felt those lines still conveyed the "Business" part of IBM and didn't really appeal to the ipod-generation and the cheapskate people.

As for you other trolls, please stop, you're embarrassing yourselves. The new MacBooks are quality machines running a quality operating system. While they're more expensive than other WinTel notebooks out there, for the quality of machine you're getting, I feel the money is well spent. It's the same reason a lot of IT admins and developers (i.e. "grownups") spend more money on their IBM/Lenovo T42/T43's than on comparably spec'd Dell Latitudes. You're spending money on the machine's build quality and the company's support. I could spend the same amount of money and buy a really nice T43, or I could get the MacBook and be able to run OS X in addition to XP. Of course you trolls wouldn't know about stuff like that because your mommy and daddy won't up your allowance and therefore you can't afford quality.

You've said all that needs to be said right there ;) If they're the #3 PC mfr and Dell is #1, how do you plan to beat them? At their own game

Interesting. I just hope they keep the high quality business line with all the goodies from before.

It's also possible to run OS X on PC's now, isn't it? I believe I heard that before...though I never looked into it as I have no use for running OS X.

*irony alert!*

No doubt about that; they're pretty damn bad-ass as a matter of fact.

thanks for your personal opinion/perspective

I?m a ?grown-up? and I loove my T-42, that's very true. Although if you?d done some research (rather than offering your knee-jerk, correlation equals causation!-statistics 101 F-grade earning error) you?d find out that a large percentage (most) of the T-4x that are purchased, at least in the US, are purchased by corporations and then issued to the ?grown-ups? that work for them. In other words some of those ?grown-ups? may be steering the corp towards quality equipment like IBM but they?re not the ones paying for it from their own pockets. - interesting that these same IT Professionals you're giving the accolades to have ZERO interest in introducing Apple equipment/hardware onto the networks/environments they administer.
I could spend the same amount of money and buy a really nice T43, or I could get the MacBook and be able to run OS X in addition to XP.
pfft!! please point me towards the place I can purchase a $2500 MacBook for the $1600 it costs for a similarly equipped T-43. Puhleease.
Of course you trolls wouldn't know about stuff like that because your mommy and daddy won't up your allowance and therefore you can't afford quality.
My mommy & daddy have been deceased for 10 & 15 years respectively. So how did I manage a T series? oops! I already covered that.. ?

y?know it?s not so much that people don?t like Apple, it?s the tool-bags that always seem to own Apples and inevitably feel the need (unsolicited, btw) to spew their Kool-Aide on anyone and everyone who calls bull$hit on their nit-wit, elitist diatribes. ?

now run along, junior. troll.

Dude who pissed in your wheaties? I was responding to the trolls above who gave one sentence reactions to my preference for wanting to choose the Macbook over this new Lenovo. I don't know why you went on the attack against me, I don't think I've ever seen you post here.

For the record, I don't own a MacBook, I own a nice Inspiron 9200 that will be upgraded in the near future to a MacBook. This is for several reasons, 1) because I want to try out OS X, 2) I want a smaller laptop than my 17" hunker, and 3) because they're just plain cool.

And while I would LOVE to respond further to your very condescending attack post towards me, I'm at work right now and don't have the time for a drawn out rebuttal. But it will come...

Meanwhile for your homework, please find me a T43 that's comparable to a MacBook for $1600. If you can, I may be swayed (the almighty checkbook trumps specs any day unfortunately).

yep, reading back over my post (and in relation to the folks you were addressing) I guess I was a little (A LOT!) reactionary. - sorry, been a long one today

Actually the $1600 figure I quoted was for a t-43 very similar to the $2500 Macbook Pro. save for a DVD burner I think.

the long & the short: Macbooks are very sweet pieces of machinary. But way over-priced. IMO, anyway.

my apologies for jumpin the gun.

;) no probs. The whole work excuse thing was just a way for me to see how you'd react to that last post. Thanks for the apology, no harm no foul. Who works at work anyways (thank goodness for 10 minute source builds) ;)

Getting back to the point, I really do like both the T4x series and the MacBooks. When I went to Lenovo.com and spec'd out what I thought would be a comparable machine, I got $2299 (2687D5U). Here is a listing of all the T4x's they offer. Compare that to $2499 for the 2Ghz Core Duo MacBookPro and IMVVHO (very very humble opinion so as to not piss anyone off ;) ) I can justify spending $200 extra for Mac OS X and a hip/cool/can-go-to-Starbucks-and-fit-in-if-I-only-grew-a-ponytail machine.

I'm kinda lucky in that my workplace lets us bring in our own machines if we want to work on them. There are several developers and QA folk who have G4 Powerbooks but none do any development on them. From what I've heard the CoreDuo cuts build times in half. Which may reduce my AT-posting unfortunately :(

If you can find drivers and stuff. It's hardly an easy process. This site has the most information about it: http://www.osx86project.org/

Basically, unless you have an intel chipset and an ATI graphics card, it's a real pain in the ass :p

Yo, I'm sorry for my post. I was just joking around. Apples are ok, I'm cool with that. There are nice laptops out there and the Apples are aesthetically appealing to many people and I pay respect to that. I just wouldn't get one because they are overpriced. I use my school's eMac's and they're fine. They do not have any games, but I guess that's not a concern to many people anyway. Sorry about what I said, and I offer my apologies to you. I didn't mean to be a troll :( (I hate that :()

And about DaRkLord....yeah, don't pay attention to him...crazy gamer/PC fan....

EDIT: This is a laptop I would get...It has Core Duo and at a great price with decent graphics...The thinkpad looks alright, although this Fujitsu is too sweet a deal...$1349 wow!

Not a bad system but the 64MB discrete VRAM will hurt it in gaming. Rest is nice tho, Fujitsu makes great machines. I'd rather have the GF Go 7400 128MB! :)

I'm not going to hold my breath but I don't find this new line all that appealing. It looks like from the pictures this laptop is going to be a pretty large plastic brick. Kinda like how the R5x series feels like. A far cry from a T4x laptop. I know there is the z6x stuff but it just isn't that appealing. Personally I am in love with the Acer 8200 series but I just can't bring myself to spend that much.

From what fbrdphreak said (and the man has connections ;) ) and what I alluded to, it sounds like Lenovo is edging into Dell's consumer sales by offering a low-cost, higher quality competitor to Dell's Inspiron lineup. I suppose it remains to be seen if they are indeed higher quality, but it looks like they're on the right track.
I bought an Acer cheapie from Newegg this past Christmas. If I were in the market for a high-end laptop, I'm not sure that Acer would be on my list. Hopefully their higher priced models have better build quality...hopefully.

evenmore1, don't worry bout it, like i said, no harm no foul.

Yeah, the 7400 64mb isn't so hot... Some of the Core Duo's on Newegg look pretty nice :)

Hey, Amigaman what would you say is the best looking PC laptop? I personally find some of the Sony's dazzaling as well as the Voodoo's. But both are more expensive than average though :(
