New LCD recommendations

I am going to be purchasing a new LCD, I am going to be using it mostly for normal stuff (music, movies, Web, etc...) but also some gaming (nothing too hardcore though).

I am stuck between whether to get a 20.1" with 1600x1200 or a 19" with 1280x1024.

I have it narrowed down to the following:

19"
Viewsonic VX922
Samsung 940b
NEC 90GX2
Samsung 970p (expensive)

20.1"
BenQ FP202W (cheapest)
Samsung 204b
Viewsonic 2030b (expensive)

I don't have a super strict budget but the 970p and 2030b are at the very top of the range...I figure the 90GX2 or 204b might be a good compromise.

Thoughts?

I would highly suggest going with a 20" or 21" WS over a 19" LCD. I just replaced my 17" Samsung (same res as a 19") with a 21" Gateway WS LCD. The difference is truly amazing. Games look so much better in WS IMHO, and the extra screen size is great. There is a currently a great deal going on for the Dell 20" WS in the Hot Deals forum, I suggest you get over there and check it out before it dies.

Yeah widescreen is tempting, but it doesn't seem like there are that many options - the 2005FPW and the BenQ 202W are the only two I see. The price on the Dell is pretty good right now (~$425) but I'd have to wait awhile before I got it. Hmm.

I'd say the Samsung 970P.

Well the NEC 20WMGX2 is the best 20.1" widescreen hands down, if you can afford it.

Get a 20.1" lcd,the 1600x1200 will make a huge difference in gaming experience
the best one of the three is the Samsung 204b

Yea, but it also has backlight issues, a monstrous footprint and very visible ghosting / streaking in some dark to dark color transitions (typical for VA).

I have the 940B and it is awesome! I've had it for several months now and have never had a problem. I've played BF2, Oblivion, NFS:MW, Quake 4 and I've never seen it ghost or have any other problem. Color levels on it are amazing. Trust me, get this monitor and you wont' regret it. I payed 350 for mine but I think they are down to 300 now. GET IT

as mentioned above, wide screens do make a huge difference in gaming experience (plus you get to have so much real estate space for your everyday stuff!). Now that I'm accustomed to a wide screen monitor, I don't think i can ever go back... you should definitely look into it before making a decision.

There's a lot more info at this site. They have extensive information on general wide screen gaming issues, user reviews on all wide screen monitors, price information and what not.

Cheers!

Thanks for the input everyone. Still researching, hopefully I'll make a decision soon (I'm wicked indecisive when it comes to big purchases)

Thanks for the link. I've seen a couple LG's at stores, and thought they looked pretty nice. Wasn't sure about the quality though, and don't see them mentioned very often on here. I'll add it to the list though!

It's brand new... just came out this month but one user in here loves it.🙂

LG makes the panel so I bet they are choice panels unlike the ones they give to secend tier manufactures
