Im looking for a gaming LCD. My workspace wont permit a CRT so I have to find a decent LCD display for gaming.

One question I have is, "Will I see a big difference in using an LCD with DVI."

Another is, "How much does contrast ratio matter?"

Here are two I have been looking at. Please let me know your opinions.

*Notice this one has 5ms grey to grey but 20ms black-white-black

Thanks for the help.

IMO go for the VX924. Have not used one myself, but those "claimed" response times (although probably not totally accurate) sound great for gaming. The "ClearMotiv" technology is suppose to be the bomb. G-Luck :)

I just got my 2001FP today, and so far it rocks. I've played through some GTA SA and some HL2. I am impressed. I'm upgrading from a 17in Trinitron that I've used for the past 6 years. Better have a good video card though, because you'll have to play games at 16x12.

Yea I purchased the x800xl. It has a DVI input and so do both those monitors I mentioned above. Anyone use the DVI?

MBrown, i've read that one of the weaknesses of the L90 is the viewing angle. Is this true?

You will see a difference with DVI depending on the display and the resolution. Above 17" it is a must have. I would get DVI just to be on the safe side anyway for 17".

Don't trust contrast ratio's the manufacturer push, it's Bullsht. Everybody does it in a way that makes there monitor look better than it actually is.

My opinion is to shop at Dell. If you get a dead pixel, you can return it. Only at dell.com. Dell monitors are very good quality and a poll from a few months ago showed that most people prefer dell 2:1 against the 2nd leading brand samsung. And my final opinion, don't get 19" monitors. Get either 17" or 20". 19" monitors stretch the resolution found in 17" making the monitor bigger, but since it stretches the picture, it doesn't look as defined. 19" monitors need a higher resolution.

I also have the 930B and can tell you it is great. There are plenty of other good options out there too. DVI makes a huge difference in my opinion, and I wouldn't run an LCD without it.

I actually hooked up two 2005FPW's, one on analog, the other digital. Comparing them side-by-side, there was very little or no difference with all the sorts of tests I was running. The only thing with analog is that you have to manually tweak some of the colors, contrasts and that stuff to get it to what you want. Dell's auto-tuning capability did most of the work though. I would still get the DVI version though, just because you never know with certain panels, and you'd like to at least have that option.
