new laptop

it's an inspiron 1525. it was supposed to come with the x3100. however, device mgr says it has a "mobile intel 965 express chipset family".

well, it didn't really have a cost. i paid for it with "bonus bucks" that I got a few years ago when I was still with gm. I never spent the bonus bucks b/c I could always have gotten more of them, but once I left the gm dealership I figured I had better spend the money before gm found out I was gone.

I just got info from aigomorla. He said that this is the santa rosa chipset and thus 45nm compatible...meaning I can use this T7250 for now and throw in, say, a 3 ghz penryn in a couple of years if it's getting too slow...good times...

I tried going to tom's vga comparison guide, but they only compare nvidia and ati hardware. Does anyone know how the p965 express mobile chipset compares to them? Is it comparable to the nvidia 6100? Is it better/worse? What about the ati x200? I have that in my current destop-replacement laptop so a comparison to it would give me a decent idea of video performance.

How much was your laptop Bryan?

thanks, I finally found it. vista has been a pita for me today, but I'm getting better with it... finally found the desription of the adapter (not in device mgr or any of the places that I would think to look in xp). It is chip type = mobiel intel (R) 965 express chipset family, adapter string moblie intel(R) GMA X3100.
