I need to replace my laptop. I currently have a Core2Duo Penryn at 2.2 Ghz combined with a 9800 M GTS 1GB.

I do NOT want to regress on graphics performance. Although I rarely use it on my laptop, I can't stand going backwards.

How does Intel's IGPU on their mobile platform compare to this extremely old GPU?
Core M won't beat it but maybe something like the XPS 13 would be faster GPU wise? I know pretty much anything CPU wise will be better I guess.

So no one on this section knows whether integrated intel GPUs have passed something old like the 9800M GTS? I really am clueless on how to theorize on this.

Its hard to find a comparison between the two, since the 9800M GTS is so old. I found this, which shows the Intel HD4600 about 4% faster in 3DMark Vantage GPU score. Take a look around that website, you might be able to find more direct comparisons, or see how they compare to each other by interpolating using other cards.

Edit - Found some more info on that same site.

Crysis @ 1024x768, medium settings:
Intel HD4600 - 50.5 FPS
Nvidia 9800M GTS - 52 FPS

Crysis @ 1024x768, high settings:
Intel HD4600 - 27.7 FPS
Nvidia 9800M GTS - 33 FPS

Just noticed you are looking at the XPS 13, which has Intel HD5500 graphics. Looks like that is 2% slower than the HD4600 in Vantage, so about 2% faster than the 9800M GTS. Not sure how that compares in gaming, because they didn't test Crysis with the HD5500.

Link to the Intel HD5500.

Ya, I decided to go back and look at the Dota 2 numbers of the XPS13, and the FPS numbers are pretty good at 1080p/all settings at highest. My laptop can't handle that (might be because of overheating but I doubt it after seeing how close those numbers are).

I don't like intel's gpu naming scheme at all.

There are some Dell models where you can get an Amd HD8xxx series card in there. I think the e6540 and maaayyybbbee the e6440

No way I'm taking AMD in a laptop. I'd only take Nvidia, or integrated GPU, and at this point, I really only want integrated GPU. The models with AMD GPUs are not ideal models for me.
Besides, that XPS 13 review on anandtech.... just amazing...
