I've been a fan of AGT since it's inception, but with Stern as one of the judges I probably won't watch anymore. Boo.

I never liked "the Hoff," and even though I like Howie Mandel's comedy act, I don't really care for him on the show.
With Piers leaving, (since he took over for Larry King, it's been expected that he'd be leaving) Hasslehoff gone, Jerry Springer gone...the show is going to suck.
Piers Morgan, in spite of being an asshole, was realistic about his judging of MOST acts. Howie is out in left field most of the time, and Nick Cannon just tries too hard to act like everyone's friend.
Sharon Osbourne has a great eye for talent, but on the show, she rarely uses it.

With this change in judges, I expect that this will be the show's last season.

Do you think Stern can't do the job? Or is he just so reviled that mainstream America won't take him seriously? Because he has been watching these talent/reality shows since the beginning and he has been very vocal on his own show about what he thinks works and doesn't work on them, and he's usually right. For example, remember when Ellen went on to judge American Idol? He predicted she would fail... and she did. She has a 5 year contract but she was gone after only 1 season.

I've never watched any of these shows but now I'm actually interested.

Can't do the job? It's not rocket science...they sit there and make smart-ass comments about the contestants...and HOPEFULLY pass the better ones on.

All too often, some of the crappier but entertaining contestants get passed on just for the "ROFL" factor...but they're eliminated before the finals.

I think Howard Stern has built his target audience...and the families of America ain't it.
Seems like it's only the "HS fans" who are ok with this. Everyone else hates the idea.

Do not underestimate Howard. I predict America will fall in love with him. He's honest and genuine. People who never head the show assume he's just about girls and t&a. He's so much more than that.

NBC seems to think it's a good idea. After all, they are paying him millions to do this and even moving the entire show from Los Angeles to New York to accomodate his radio show schedule.

I think you, and America, will be surprised by him.

Meh.

He appeals to those who gravitate toward the lowest common denominator, so he should do fine

I'm kind of surprised by this. It seems like the people who watch America's Got Talent are the exact type of people who would watch or listen to Howard Stern.

Apparently accurately and consistently judging what it takes to create the most popular radio show in history for the past 30+ years as well as numerous other successful forays into other media doesn't count.

Amazing how some people only mention strippers and porn stars when speaking of Howard. Reeks of plain and simple ignorance of what his career is all about.

Actually I loved his movie and like his books. But as a judge on that particular show, no. Sorry if it hurts your e-feelings.

and howie and sharon have any credentials? howard steps in and immediately is most credible. I'm sure anyone who gives him a chance will like him, but the ignorant people who hate him for no reason won't give him a chance. it's not like it was a very good show anyway. typical reality garbage

I've never thought Howie belonged on the show...Hasslehoff either.

Sharon Osbourne is a music producer/manager, so she at least has some credibility in her judging chops.

Fortunately, ALL reality TV isn't the same...some shows are better than others, and you just can't compare "AGT" with "The Bachelor."

There have been some VERY good acts on AGT over the years...along with some very bad and stupid ones. The latter group are aired just for their entertainment value...and don't get serious consideration.
AGT isn't "another American Idol" knock-off...instead, it takes acts from a wide variety of entertainment genres and showcases them...many that we've never seen before.

So much for a family friendly show.

Why would you say that? Is the mere sight of Howard Stern enough to turn a preacher's daughter into a coke snorting porn star? Or maybe it's his voice?

Contrary to what you might think, he is actually a rational human being, perfectly capable of working within the guidlines set by the show's producers.

He doesn't exactly have a good reputation outside of frat boys.

lol at all the Howard haters. It reminds me of the audio clips of people on the street and ask who is worse .. Howard Stern or xxxxx person. Howard always loses.

I can't wait to hear Ronnie's special holiday party poem. Winter rocked so hard.

Ha, ok. So you loved his movie and liked his books, yet you claim he has no talent (according to your earlier post)? If you enjoy those things (which were the creations of the guy with "no talent"), why wouldn't you enjoy him on AGT? No feelings hurt here, just wondering where you're coming from.

Still haven't heard from you any legitimate reasons why he'd be a bad judge.

OK, something's funny here. A TV show topic was posted and someone didn't say "I don't even own a TV" in the first 5 posts. People that don't own TV's HAVE to let other people know they don't own one anytime a TV show is discussed.
