Yep, apparently Stern is going to replace Piers Morgan on the show starting next season. They are even moving the entire production to New York.

I'm a long time Howard Stern listener and I think this is going to be great fun to watch!

I'm going to have to start watching this.

Howard Stern Replacing Piers Morgan as Judge on 'America's Got Talent'

Howard Stern has officially signed on to join "America's Got Talent" as a judge, replacing CNN host Piers Morgan.

A tweet from Stern's show confirmed the news. "It's official - Howard just signed on the dotted line - he is now the newest judge on America's Got Talent!"

Just yesterday, Stern met with this year's "Talent" winner, Landau Eugene Jr., only to tweet that "Howard says he's a really nice guy but he still shouldn't have won."

Rumors started circling earlier this fall that Stern was being considered by executive producer, Simon Cowell, as Morgan's replacement, but that the shock jock had some serious demands. It was reported that Stern was asking for a $20 million salary and for the show to move to New York so he could continue to do his radio show.

According to his show's twitter account, Stern will start shooting in February and "actually be traveling the country to do the audition rounds."

Update (05/15/12): I watched the premier last night and enjoyed it. Howard was funny, entertaining, jelled well with the audience and with Sharon and Howie, the show works. I'll definitely keep watching it. My 9 year old son watched it too and he enjoyed it.

That's too bad. I've been a fan of the show since the first season.

I can't stand Howard Stern, and may stop watching.

Smart move, I'll watch that show. Will be interesting to see a judge tell it like it is good or bad (without the fake bad guy shit like simon cowell).

Simon Cowell owns/produces the show, but he's never been one of the judges.

I guess this will no longer be one of the shows we wait for every season. :(

Honestly, putting Howie Mandel and Howard Stern on the show pretty much means it's going to be nothing but a circus. Well, more of a circus than it already is. I give it two weeks before Shannon walks off the set for good.

Now Howard Stern and David Hasselhoff as judges with Jerry Springer hosting would be the best combo ever

Yeah I know, I was just saying that I think Simon and most other judges are pretty fake in their opinions. I think a person like Stern would give his honest opinion, good or bad.

How so? What about the combination of the two makes it a circus? And who's Shannon?

Great move. Stern will be awesome in this. Love him or hate him, he is a genuine person and says what he really feels. He's not going to be playing a part, it's not his style.

Do you not watch the show? Howie puts just about anybody through that would draw Piers's ire. Stern is just going to put anybody who flashes tits and ass and has no other talent through. Shannon at least judges based on the performance and whether or not they actually have talent - for the most part.

You mean Sharon Osbourne? You realize that she's a fan of Howard Stern as is Howie Mandel. They've both done his show many times. Sharon was on his show just last week and Howie was in a couple months ago.

Anyway, Howard announced it this morning on his show and said he is taking the role seriously. I think it will be great for the show personally. He has stated that they won't be putting through acts like they have recently and there is no way that Sinatra impersonator would have won if he was judging.

Stern has been talking about these shows on his show for years. He actually watches them regularly and has an opinion and isn't afraid to express it. I think he's what this show needs.

Who is Shannon?

Stern will be great for a show that pretty much sucks to begin with.

Maybe they should get someone who actually has talent, to be judging others for talent? Stupid show.

Yes that, sorry - I don't know why I get Shannon stuck in my head.

He hasn't proven me wrong yet.

Yes, I watch the show, and I've observed the dynamic between Howie and Piers. There's no reason to believe Howie will take the same tack with Howard, especially knowing how much Howie likes and respects Howard, i.e., Howie's relationship with Piers has no connection to his relationship with Howard. This is something you'd have better insight on if you actually listened to Howard and had heard the two interact before (which they have SEVERAL times over the past 30 years).

Stern has been quite adamant about how he would handle talent on that show should he become a judge (when it was just speculation, not fact, and again this morning after the announcement). He has stated repeatedly that he will bring brutal truth to the position and not coddle or pander to the crowd, which will have nothing to do with tits and ass, but rather pure talent. Again, a ridiculous assumption based upon the fact that you don't ACTUALLY listen to Howard and ACTUALLY know what he's all about. This type of position is perfect for him and is his milieu, both for his entertainment acumen and his obsessive personality which only allows him to put 110% into whatever he does.

Jules has it right. Give him a chance.

So someone who has written two best sellers, had a very successful movie, topped the soundtrack charts with his movie, had several TV shows and a production company, and has ran the greatest radio show in the history of radio for the past 30+ years has no talent? What have you done with your life?

Same as you and Howard, nothing that would warrant me judging other people. The only thing Howard should be judging is strippers. :whiste:

Wow. I find this announcement really surprising. Howard has been talking about it a great deal lately but frankly I thought it was BS and there was no way NBC would actually do it.

I was a Stern super-fan for many years but have basically stopped listening the last couple of years - without anyone in the Jackie/Artie chair there is just WAY too much Robin and I find it a little dull. The Carolla podcast is now my comedy "radio" show of choice for that reason. That said, I would definitely be more likely to watch America's Got Talent (which I have never seen) with Stern on.

Howard must be on Cloud 9 about this. While I know he likes being an outsider, it's always seemed to me that he hungered for more mainstream acceptance.

Apparently accurately and consistently judging what it takes to create the most popular radio show in history for the past 30+ years as well as numerous other successful forays into other media doesn't count.

Amazing how some people only mention strippers and porn stars when speaking of Howard. Reeks of plain and simple ignorance of what his career is all about.
