New Job :)

Just got myself a new job. I am going to be a system administrator of a college. Got a nice raise too, but salary is still slightly below average. Already submitted my letter of resignation, and they want me to stay the full 2 weeks. Don't know what I will do this whole time

Congrats man!!!! Welcome to college life where you grow older each year and they don't! 😉 Private or public and did you have to join a union?

Public college, I am going to be a state employee. I have just signed the offer letter so far, don't know anything about a Union. Are unions good to join?

Public college usually means you will be unionized unless you are management. It's kinda wierd but if your boss is a management employee you will be most likely a union employee. I'm in AFSCME but only pay "fair share" dues. This means I'm in the union but am not allowed to vote or go to meetings. No biggie. Unions for IT possitions, I think, are silly. It's not like I'm knitting rugs for $3 and hour!

So I have heard that state jobs are a bit more secure? True or just a myth?

Secure! Ha! That's an understatement! You might be a little underpaid but hey, you work for the state and that's just a fact of life. I have to kill someone for them to even think about firing me! 🙂
