New Job

Hey all,

Iam trying to get a new job and i have successfully gone through 3 interviews. Seems I have it as long as I pass the drug test and the background test. Now I dont have any felonies or anything too bad, I do have a Larceny in the 6th degree from a few years ago. (Got caught stealing from Sears while I was in college, but thats another post) Will this prevent me in any way in getting this job. There is also a warrant for me in the great city of Benbrook, right outside Ft Worth, TX. How thorough is a background check and what determines HR to say, I dont want this person aboard. Am i in danger of not getting this job because of a warrant and a stupid Larceny in the 6th degree 3 years ago?

Its doing Corporate Sales for CompUSA. Yes i know having a warrant isnt good. Its for a dumb traffic violation. Speeding and driving w/o insurance

I wouldn't think for a company like that, if it were a government job, then i think you would be screwed.

If I were an employer I wouldn't hire you.

1) You were dumb enough to do those things in the first place
2) You seem to be avoiding the problem rather than dealing with it

I think McD's is hiring.

Viper GTS

Ditto what Viper said - I wouldn't hire you if I found out about those 2 things. Lots of companies don't do extensive background checks though, and they take your word for it. However, if at any time they find out about that, you're as good as gone.

How old is it?

Pretty Recent,

5 or so months
but everyone in dallas has warrants, dont they, well everyone i know

I have a misdeamnor for a Public Intoxication I got my freshman year of college in my fraternity. I worked for Fortune 500 #7 Citicorp and my current job both fully aware of what I did. They kind of laughed and just wanted to hear my story and it did not hold me back at all. If you lie on your app and then they find it, don't count on getting the job. Be open about it. Tell them you are in process of getting the traffic violation taken care of.

5 mo and you can't pay off a driving ticket? I think you're hanging out with the wrong folks BTW 🙂 I've never met a single person in my LIFE who has a warrant, that I knew about.

you should have just checked "no" on the application form where it asks you about criminal history.

*if* they run a background check (lots of places say they do but actually dont) and find out, then they have to decide whether what u did was really that bad compared to the trouble of going thru the candidate cycle again

But since you're not going to get the job anyway, if they find out about this (afterall you're lying by not telling them), what'st he big deal? Other than the fact it's illegal I mean.
