in 4 years we've gone from hyperpower to not quite an afterthought. sure we still have an enormous military, but that doesn't count for anything if the POTUS is truly a moron with the mental and emotional capacity of a toddler.

Not that I care much about the elitist bastard, but HL Mencken was right 100 years ago-

As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and a complete narcissistic moron.

The consequences of Trump as President will haunt us well into the future.

They haven't done anything except muscle Mexico into a trade deal that is only marginally different than NAFTA and try to secure us worse agreements in the pacific rim than we would have gotten with the TPP. Total incompetence.

Is this really a surprise? What did we expect would happen when we reneged on our own nuclear deal first and reimposed sanctions? Besides Iran, belt and road was always going to have military cooperation down the line. China will eventually have bases in Africa, the Caribbean and South America, so why not the Middle East too? It’ll make us think twice before committing to endless wars or regime change in the name of “human rights”.

If Trump is so bad, why then will he be reelected?
And I still predict by a landslide.
They were wrong about 2016 and Hillary, but this time they will be really really wrong about Trump.
I know, I despise Donald Trump too just like everybody else, but it is what it is. And it is what it will be. I guess we have to go through this, whatever it is, either some biblical prophecy or just down right idiocracy playing out in real time. But whatever it is, it's gonna be very bad indeed. Four more years could be our last four years.

I figure only a miracle can save Trump. Like parting the Red Sea or something.

It's a return to Neocon stupidity. I'm sure Iran would rather deal with the West, at least we're not Godless Communists, but we stopped that from happening. Tried to bully them, again, as if it worked for the 36 years preceding the JCPOA. The Chinese? Reduced market share in the US means they'll just find new markets in Iran & elsewhere. Fuck you, Donnie.

China has been a major trading partner with Iran since the sanctions began so many years ago. Iran has lots of oil, oil that China needs. They have been close for a long time-look how Iran was one of the first countries outside of Red China to get hit hard with Covid. The Donald actually improved China's position by continuing the embargo after backing out of the deal, thus making every other embargoing country very reluctant to go along.

Definitely not grade A negotiating strategy on His Donaldship's part.

It's actually even worse than that... Dumpy's trade war with China greatly accelerated China's strivings to become self-sufficient in basically all high-tech sectors. They are making their own aircraft now, military aircraft and civilian, cars, trains, lots more besides and these days also microchips. CPUs they've been making for a while, and since at least a few months now also DRAM. They also have their own OS efforts, to make themselves independent of western software too.

These chips may not be quite as advanced - yet - as the chips of the west, but that will come, with further industrial espionage if nothing else. However they're building up their own R&D capabilities in parallel with the espionage, so it won't be long until their native tech will be at least as good as ours on every level.

So now, not only will the west not be able to sell their high-tech goods to China, China will instead become an increasingly capable competitor to our industries, and with their dictator regime-fueled and essentially endless supply of low-pay workers they will be able to undercut us. Like they did with Huawei networking gear built using stolen western intellectual property, sold back cheaply to us, weakening our own networking manufacturers by underbidding and outcompeting them.

They're sawing off the branch we're sitting on using our own saw. And we voluntarily let them do it because it's cheaper than sawing off the branch ourselves! :p Couple this with anti-intellectual (IE, rightwinger) movements in both Europe and the U.S., and we will be in serious trouble in a few decades if we do nothing.

...And in the other hand:
"Nuking" the nuclear deal with Iran has made them (again) turn away from the west. Like anyone with a brain would realize it would do. We wanted them to open up to us, the Iranian people was by and large quite western-friendly, wanting to live their lives like we do with modern conveniences and internet access and whatnot. So the nuke deal was to deepen the ties to the point they no longer would see a need for, or want to procure nuclear weapons.

So now everything is moving in the opposite direction of what we want, all because of an orange idiot clown in the WH screwing up anything he touches. And he calls this "winning", because he's a pathologically lying narcissist egomaniac.

Let not even get into the fact that China's slowly gaining lots of influence in that shithole continent Africa, and it isn't even on this admins radar as far as I can tell. (full of black people, so who cares)

This is a neat trick this admin tries to play. Quit an organization (Who) or throw out a negotiated deal (Iran nuclear deal). Then inject yourself into those things that you just quit.
I don't think Trump knows what leverage is.

No but he does know what overleverage is and I’m sure they are similar.
