Just went to the Apple store today and saw some new Ipods.... i wanted one before... the new ones are even better! It looks much smaller and slimmer than the old version, and the buttens have red lights when you push them.... docking station is nice and simple as well. Hopefully dell will start carrying the new ones soon!

People have been saying that Apple caved in to Dell's demands, they still have the old 20gig at their site.... and someone said they got the new 10gig from dell.

I have the new 10GB, my first apple product and I love it! The battery life is disappointing tho, so far I've drained it both days (at the library and walking around campus).

I wish they would release firmware that would rid the ipod of all the useless crap--all the games, contacts, basically anything that's not related to playing mp3s. I'd rather have more battery life than all of that junk anyways.

my guess is the useless stuff doesn't actually take up any space:p physical space that is. getting rid of it wouldn't give u more battery space:p

the new features like text, games, etc. don't drain battery life.

the only bad thing about the new ipod compared to the previous version is battery life, and at 7.5 hours running time, it's still pretty good, non?

i almost bought one of those new ipods and then looked at the price, then my bank balance, then the price again, then my bank balance again....(then the price again...ad infinitum)

I wish they had a 5 gig model... Or even a 3 for that matter...

Something in the 100.00 dollar range would be awesome.. I can deal with having 500-700 songs

:D

I have a question about iPods. I know they are charged via FireWire, but since I don't have that, the USB2.0 option is available to myself. I know FireWire can charge the iPod, but USB2.0 can't. So how would the iPod be charged without FireWire?

i think it was Dell who pulled away from Apple. Apple made all the re-sellers sign and new reseller agreement. In the new contract, Apple insisited on looking at business records, which is fine. But, Apple wanted to look at the records even AFTER a place stop selling Apple products. Many business didn't like this and didn't renew their selling license.

Mp3 CD's=200 songs per CD
CD= about 50 cents
Mp3 CD Player= about $110

IPOD with 10GB=$389

Mp3 CD > IPOD (or any other mp3 player)

This has been a public service announcement.

That is all.

From Apple:

*Syncing with USB 2.0 (Windows-only) requires optional USB 2.0 + FireWire Cable and free software update (available in June).

I have an MP3 CD player (Rio Volt). It's large, my CD's hold 120 songs (I crave for high-quality), and navigation/organization is troublesome. I would choose an iPod over any CD-MP3 player.

Theres an AC adapter that has a little firewire thing u can plug it into. My laptop only has 4 pin so I have to charge using the AC adapter. Also USB2 cable isn't avaliable yet.

200 songs/CD ~= 4mb/song
10GB / 4MB = 2500
2500 songs / 200/cd = 12.5 CDs

Like it was mentioned, yes you can do it this way, but the whole point of something like an iPod is to get away from carrying around a bunch of CDs. Which is easier to slip into your pocket: a CD player with 12 CDs, or an iPod? Preference, maybe.

The iPod is HUGELY popular.

eg. For Q4 2002, the iPod was ranked number 1 by dollar value market share, by a large margin. See here. ie. More money was spent on iPods in the retail sector than any other MP3 player (and that was not even including Apple's direct online store). However, the iPod sells slightly less units than the cheaper RCA and RIO models.

I've used CD-based MP3 players before, but 700 MB simply isn't enough, and they're quite big. They skip too with small bumps. I hear the iPod does not, although I dunno how well it does with joggers.

I'll probably buy an iPod when it hits around 45 GB.
