New iPod Touch specs tomorrow...guesses?

I'd love to see 128GB but unlikely.
Hopefully they keep the screen size the same.
Beefy CPU & 1GB RAM for games would be nice.
Hopefully it ships with IOS 8.3. 🙄

Any guesses?

A7 iPod touch with 1 GB RAM
4" Retina 16:9 screen

That means after the discontinuation of the iPhone 5c this year, and the introduction of the A7-based Apple TV, the entire line will be Apple-designed 64-bit ARM.

Personally though, I'd just rather get the clickwheel back in a non-touch iPod.

Yeah. I kind of agree. Although after using a program called Groove for on the fly Playlists I don't know if I could go without it now. I still use an old iPod Nano 5 quite a bit though too.

New colours for nanos and shuffles, but no new features.

All upgrades are the touches, including the expected 64-bit CPU and 128 GB option. Also M chip for fitness monitoring, and camera upgrade (8 MP), both also not surprising.
 
Holy crap, the iPod touches got the A8! I was hoping for this, but wasn't expecting it.

I guess that means A8 yields are excellent these days? If so, that may mean that dual-core A8 is cheaper than dual-core A7, since the die size of the 20 nm A8 is 89 mm2, compared to the 102 mm2 of the 28 nm A7. That's a 13% reduction in die size.

The other interesting part is that the A8 in the iPod touch is powering far less pixels than the A8 in the iPhone 6. That means even if the iPod touch A8 is slightly lower clocked, it might have higher 3D performance than the iPhone 6. It also makes me wonder about the outside chance of a 4" A8 iPhone, although I'm not expecting that.

I am so hoping for a new 4" either A8 or A9 phone in the fall.

I suspect it's for power savings. The iPhone 6 uses a 1810 mAh battery, and the size equivalent 5S uses a 1560 mAh battery. The iPod Touch 6th gen by comparison uses a 1043 mAh battery. Even without a radio to power, that's a big hit in battery capacity. Dropping the clocks will help them save power.
 
No surprises it got the A8. iPod Touches always had equivalent hardware to the most recent iPhone up until the 5th Gen.

I plan on going to Android for my next phone but wouldn't mind one of these. Too bad the higher capacities are still so expensive. All my ripped CDs are Apple Lossless.
 
Outside of younger teenagers who do not yet have a phone, who buys an iPod Touch? Honest question. Personally I feel the money would be better spent on either a phone (active sim or no) or a tablet.

I know a lot of friends and families that have iPhones and iPads, but I only know of one person who has an iPod Touch (my little sister, a younger teenager who does not yet need a phone).

Parents for their kids perhaps? But $100 more gets you the iPad Mini 2...

Someone who is mostly using it for music and needs all the space?
 
I use one at work to stream music since phones are banned. I know, it makes no damn sense, but rules are rules, sigh.

Will be upgrading, and very happy it got the A8, the 5th gen is slow as hell 🙁

People with disposable cash I guess. The only person I know with a touch is my mom. Why? i have no idea.

I have a Pioneer head unit which interfaces with iOS. I had an iPod classic, but it was slooooow to navigate and do anything. I use my iP6+ right now but I don't have a ton of space for music due to apps. If the rumor's true, I'll absolutely buy a 128gb Touch to toss in my glove box and leave there. iPad's are nice, but too big to fit in my glove box. There's really no other device with that kind of storage that will work with my head unit.

My IPhone is acting differently with my Toyota ever since the iOS 8.4 update.

Bluetooth browsing no longer works. Wired mostly works though.
