Title says it. Stores had lots of the 3rd gen Ipod Nano, now the new one is out. What happened to all the stock of the previous model from last summer?

its probably being sold as "refurbs" on the apple store online, or in store they might be selling them for an even cheaper price as well.

Didn't see the previous generation on the website. Stores must have had a lot left in stock too nation wide.

Sent back to the Apple mothership and gets sold as clearance/refurbished. It'll take awhile but they'll come out.

Considering the Ipod Touch is now priced at $229 for the 8 gb model, and the recent Nano was $199 for 8 gb, I'm thinking of going with the touch for the bigger screen, wifi browsing etc feature.

I currently have a Samsung but it's response is slow and sluggish when turning on and off, but my daughters Ipod Nano (purchased last May) is fast and I love the interface. I realize the Touch has a different interface though.

My daughter downloads all her music to Itunes on my 2nd computer so I should be able to create a profile and chose the music I like and put it on my own Ipod, correct?

Anyone use the new Touch and how do you like it for music?

I have to say, I LOVE my touch. I use the wifi/internet/apps more than I thought I would. It's nice just having it in my pocket and just being able to quickly look at something. I travel every once in awhile and it's great with the airport wifi and being able to watch movies on a larger screen - and not having to break out a laptop!

The music part is great. It's much better now that they have a volume buttons on the side. I guess the biggest difference is that you have to actually look at the device to change songs. With my old nano, I just clicked the button and didn't have to look at that. That said, the upside is much higher with the other functions to overcome that small complaint.

Thanks for the feed back. I'm glad I waited and didn't get the Nano, now that the Touch has reached generation 2 and a cut in price.

Do you have any comments regarding memory? I'm thinking that my current Samsung got fairly full but not quite 2 gb of music. I hear movies can take about 2 gig at the format they are for the Ipods. So theoretically I could fit 2 movies and about 100 albums on the 8 gig. I'm not so sure I would need 16 and pay $299 but I'm willing to listen to arguments either way.

I got the 16gb because my 8gb nano was full :) Right now I have about 10GB of music and 4gb free for apps and movies.

Using IpodMe, a video conversion software, I have Super Troopers on my ipod right now at 578mb. It looks as good as a DVD on a small screen! The software is stand alone and it works great.

I don't have enough music that I like right now to fill up more than about 2 gb, but I know there are some people that can fill up memory fast.

That is really cool that you can compress a movie down to 578 mb so theoretically if I only used half of 8 gb for storage, that would be room enough for 6 or 7 movies. Frankly, from what my office co-worker says (he has a new 32 gb Touch), the batteries won't last long enough to watch more than about 4 movies anyway.

I have the 16GB 1st Gen iPhone. I have about 2GB of music, about 1GB of family photos of the wife and kids, 250MB of Apps, and then about 8 movies and still have about 2GB left. Movies for me run about 900MB each (roughly - "7 Samurai" came in at 1.2GB, "Minority Report" is 850MB). I use "Handbrake" to convert over DVD's - it's free, open source and does a nice quality job. Maybe not as small as others, but the quality is very good and it's free.

For batteries, I saw an Energizer AA NiMH rechargeable battery backup for the iPod/Touch/iPhone for under $10 over at Home Depot tonight when I was picking up tile for our bathroom. And I use a $40 lithium ion extra battery that triples the iPhone battery life... since the iPhone has a bigger battery, I can only imagine what it would do for something like a Touch. So you can extend the batteries pretty far - I got about 11 hours continuous movie watching and gaming use out of my iPhone using the extended battery.

i've got the 16gb 2nd gen touch as well. i'd recommend that over the 8 gb since its only $70 more. if u have a AAA membership, you get an additional 8% off from circuit city. in any case, i absolutely love this thing. the safari browser is extremely easy to navigate, youtube is great, and the AppsStore is just plain awesome. i'm going to have to look into that iPodMe software..sounds interesting.

likeLinus - did you find any compatible cases or protective film for the 2nd gen yet? i can't find any decent ones online. my only gripe is that the back of the touch scratches way too easily..... also, can i upload mp3s from my PC directly to the touch without purchasing from itunes? thanks

Well, sounds like it might be a smart investment to step up a notch and get the $16 mb model. I don't have AAA, but it would be nice to find a way to get a discount.
