New Ipod Mini $225

No, the housing is a solid piece except for the top and bottom.
I looked at them on Saturday at the Apple store in the mall.
Very light and nice looking, just too expensive.

You can also get one at Crutchfield.com for $229 shipped after either a $20 off $100 MasterCard coupon (Google for the coupon link) or a $20 off $200 current customer referral code. They probably won't ship as soon as Target though.

You can get it for $199 if your an Apple developer 🙂 Mine is back ordered until march 18th 😛

Which is what the price SHOULD be in my opinion.

To me it makes more sense to stick 100 dollars more into it and get a regular ipod with a helluva lot more memory.

Have you seen this thing? Held it in your hand? It's a very well designed piece of work and it is ultra portable. While 40 gig is impressive, I know I would not use all of that space for music. I prefer the form factor and the more durable feel of the mini.

This will be my next best friend 😀

Is the backside metal plated like the orginals?

The housing for the iPod minis is a solid piece of aniodized aluminum (in a tube, hollowed out so it's only one piece). Very nicely done, and way more scratch-resistant than the original iPods.

Has anyone seen the IM in actual stores yet? I mean stores I've heard of: Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, etc., etc.? I'd love to go check it out in person, plus I'd hate to wait more than a month by ordering it online . . .

Apple stores have 'em now. Well, at least the one I went to did (Glendale, CA). And they are awesome looking. Very impressive. There's many pictures of them popping up all over the web. Check out the iPod mini dissection.

*sigh*... how many times must we go over who this is targeted at...

calm down and wait for price drop. I'm sure apple has learned from there past mistakes.

I doubt we'll see price drops anytime soon if at all. They're selling very well right now. 100,000+ ordered/bought so far. No incentive for Apple to lower the prices. Besides, a 4GB micro drive will normally retail for something like $300 or more. So the price Apple's charging isn't completely unreasonable.
