New iPhone 3GS

I had the iPhone 3G since its release. I went to the ATT store today and upgraded to the 3GS for the discounted rate. As I was driving home it struck me to look around the edge of the phone for cracks since my first 3G had a pretty severe crack by the headphone jack.

Turns out there are hairline cracks in 3 places (headphone jack, and both speakers). I immediately took the phone back to ATT and asked for an exchange. They took the phone in the back and told me they cannot issue an exchange because they don't see any cracks. I admitted they were hard to see but much easier to see in the sunlight. They refused to budge.

They said I could talk to Apple about a warranty exchange or pay a 10% restocking fee to return the phone. I went into the Apple store and they said they couldn't exchange the phone right then but they could start a warranty exchange after talking to a Genius.

Ugh, so it seems like my only option is to pay the restocking fee and then buy a new phone. Has anyone had any luck exchanging a newly purchased iPhone to ATT?

What's the rush to exchange? You have a year.

I hate to , but you sound like a co worker of mine. He also said he had cracks in his, and since he knew I had exchanged several 3G iPhones, he asked me what he had to do. Naturally, I asked to see his phone, and I couldn't see a damn thing wrong with it. He got mad, and said I was blind as shi$, so I tried to diffuse the situation, and told him I had a magnifying glass in my desk.

Well, I still saw nothing, and told him so, and he could except it, so he asked others to look. No one saw a thing. As we are both fans of ST:TNG, I yelled to him this. Jump to the 2:50 point if you don't want to watch the whole thing. I changed it to fit the situation though.😛

If there truly are cracks in the phone.. make an appointment with a genius and they'll replace it. I had this happen, and it took about 10 min.

Tyranicus just got his 3GS replaced, if it weren't for the fact that the store had no 'replacement' phones in stock (the ones that don't come in the fancy box) it would have been a quick and easy process. Instead it was a slow and easy process.
