I pre-ordered a 32GB White Wi-Fi on launch day. Can't wait until Friday :)

Just out of curiosity... which of these review sites would be considered the most reliable and unbiased? I'm not familiar with them so I just have to ask.

I wouldn't say that any are. Its my understanding that Apple kind of hand-picks these reviewers to get early previews of things like these so they're going to be universally good reviews to begin.

Having said that, I can't say I disagree with any of the reviews so far. Its my opinion the iPad is still the best slate on the market. If you agree with what I just said, the new iPad previews aren't going to change your mind and if you don't agree with what I've just said, the new iPad previews aren't going to change your mind.

Only beef i have with the new ipad is the small amount of included memory. Each new generation gets a faster cpu, faster mobile connectivity, better camera, yet they all still have 16gb of memory. Shouldn't 32gb be the standard by now? Why is apple skimping on something so inexpensive?

Not sure... perhaps they're only using flash storage module(?) in the iPad 3 to save space for the battery. I think 2x64GB is affordable, but not 1x128GB.

May just not be enough production capacity to satisfy their needs. A major disadvantage of shipping as many units as they do is that their design can become constrained by the supply chain. If there's so new, cool piece of technology that they want to include, but there's no way to get 10 million of it made by launch time it's not going in the product.

Of course the other alternative is to use more low capacity NAND modules, but there's probably not enough space remaining in the new model to add any more. They've already had to significantly increase the capacity of the battery just to get the battery life to remain the same, so any spare space they could find likely went to the battery.

I do agree though. Having additional storage space is something I would have really appreciated. 64 GB should be enough, but I like being able to take a lot of content with me and not need to bother with sinking all of the time. We'll probably see 32/64/128 next year though.

The one article said Apple is pushing their icloud storage solution so no 128GB option is expected. I don't agree with their decision but there it is. Going from 16Gb to 32Gb to 64Gb has a pretty hefty price jump in my opinion so its not cheap but then again maybe I'm just spoiled because I'm used to buying large storage pc hard drives so cheap and cant understand why it doesn't work the same for something like a tablet. I do understand the storage devices are not the same construction.

Well you have to pay per year for iCloud storage above and beyond the standard allotment plus mobile 3G/4G is being capped by wireless carriers, so I don't buy the "look to the cloud" bullshit.

Apple is just being greedy as usual. All that friggin' money, they have the NAND market cornered, they just bought a NAND company in Israel, and they can't sacrifice a couple of dollars of their already 50%+ margins on the iPad to give us more storage...

It may not be an issue of that, there simply may not be enough space. I'm not sure whether the iPad 1 & 2 use two flash modules for their 32GB and 64GB storage, but if it is it's possible the iPad 3 is only using one. If it is using one, it's possible 128GB is either too expensive or not available in high enough quantities, or at all.

I want a pony, I want a pony, I want a pony!

If you don't think you're getting good value for your money, buy something else.

Also, the company that Apple bought doesn't make NAND, they make controllers for flash memory.

If Samsung is manufacturing these displays, would they not make their way into a galaxy tab down the road?

The iPad 2 uses two NAND modules, whereas the iPhone uses 1.

So a 64GB iPad 2 is 32GBx2
A 64GB iPhone 4S is 64GBx1

The iPad 3 still uses 2 NAND modules, so making a 128GB model all comes down to supply.

Ah, I see. Thanks for that. Yeah, it seems to be just supply then.

The AllThingsD review is effectively the Wall Street Journal review, and The Verge review is effectively the Washington Post review. Here is the NYT review, and here is the Bloomberg review. For some internationalism, why don't we also throw in the UK's Telegraph review.

Those are some leading standards of journalism in the world. Take that as you will.

In any case, a summary:
[For everybody] omgomgomg screen screen screen!
[For iPad 2 owners] Meh, unless you have a specific want
[For everybody else] Yea, it's a damn good tablet

Thanks for the info, guys. I confess I am a tablet noob. Never owned one but I'm wanting one. I'll wait and see how this tablet compares to the newer ASUS Transporter Prime version thats due out in next couple of months (April/May supposedly) and then decide. I figure thats the iPad3 nearest competitor. This should be the year I finally jump onto the tablet band wagon.

iPad 2 was already the best tablet on the market. The iPad 3 is quite a bit better, so Apple continues to dominate.

I can't wait to see the screen for myself. I knew people would go gaga over its clarity. The iPhone4 retina screen is pretty nice and having it in 10" is going to be all the more eye candy.
