VoodooExtreme: What?s the video card scene looking like right now?
Brian Hook: Nvidia won. I think that pretty much sums it up.

VoodooExtreme: What about ATI?s Radeon?

Brian Hook: On paper, the Radeon is pretty nice. It actually has some features that the GeForce series doesn?t, such as 3D texture mapping, however ATI historically has crappy drivers, and driver quality really matters more than hardware features. If ATI can consistently hit product deadlines and start writing robust drivers, they should be a contender.

VoodooExtreme: And 3Dfx?

Brian Hook: That is one confused company. They?re floundering right now trying to find a direction. Unfortunately, that?s been their pattern since 1998?they really haven?t had much vision or execution since V2. The STB acquisition was a knee jerk reaction to competitive forces (specifically, the competition was kicking their ass). Now they?re saying that the STB acquisition was a mistake. The whole Gigapixel thing smacks of desperation. I have a feeling that 3Dfx is going to be a ripe acquisition target pretty soon.

WOW!!!!

Wow hardware found someone that agrees with his opinion.
But how long ago did he leave 3dfx? he says he left when 3dfx had less than 50 employees...when was that?

if you justapose his new interview with his old interviews, you'll see that he has no shred of honor or dignity.

Good interview, I've always really liked Brian Hook. As much as you can like a person without knowing them personally, anyway. If we're discussing the short look at the video card industry, he didn't have much to say that isn't already known. He didn't unnecessarily slam ATI or 3dfx, just said that they have some issues that need to be worked out. 3dfx made some poor decisions, and ATI needs better driver support. Neither of those statements are a new revelation. Hardware would probably like to use this interview to say "HAW HAW! Brian Hook said Nvidia won! ATI and 3dfx sux0rs!" But I don't think that was what Brian had in mind at all.

NFS4. Im not defending hardware, but why tell him to get a clue?

Hes only posting news. Just because its putting 3DFX in a bad light, well thats their problem. Not his.

At the end of the day...

ATI have to get their drivers up to spec.

Matrox have to try alot harder, IF they want to get back into the 3D Market Arena.

3DFX, well I hope they do something good. :)

Otherwise Nvidia will keep on cruising like it is now, and will still be KING.

Daemon_UK, just do a search on "Hardware", and you'll see why (if you are new to these forums). :)

I'm just getting tired of Hardware going out of his way to take down 3dfx...

Maybe it was just a bit excessive, but I'm very emotional right now :D

BTW, didn't a PR guy from 3DFX left them and joined Nvidia? (I think he changed teams to nvidia... but I forgot the details)?

So, let me get this straight...

If someone from 3dfx speaks negatively about nVidia or ATI, then they are poorly representing the company, and get flamed to no end. Even someone like Dave who doesn't represent 3dfx when posting here.

Yet, if someone employed by nVidia does it, then it's ok???

Wow!, can you say "hypocrite", boys and girls? I knew you could.

<< Jeezus christ someone send Hardware a mail bomb >>

I agree! This fetish with nVidia really is disgusting.

Wingnut, this guy doesn't work for nVidia. He never has...but he has worked for 3dfx.

Very nice interview, it just clears some issues 3dfx fans have, like what is realy going on in this industry right now, not how it was and not how it will be. Right now I have to say nVidia is the current king, next in line is ATI, 3dfx is somewhere might go to the forest or might go to the throne, Matrox is just basicly hanging around and doing nothing, but they are at least safe in the castle.

Good find hardware:)

although Hook said nothing unexpected, it really does make sense that Mr. Obsessive-Compulsive, our very "own" Hardware, would post this.

anything that sheds some negativity toward 3dfx and helps feed his overwhelmingly unhealthy obsessive-compulsive disorder

I can picture Hardware sitting down, rocking back and forth

"3dfx sucks, definitely sucks. Wanna watch Wapner. 3dfx sucks"
