K, after some years of using amd I went to the dark side again :) I got a Pentium D 805 and an abit aw8-max mobo flashed ot the latest bios. 4 512 mb ddr2 533 2 are smasung and 2 are dell :) Before i get flamed as to why I choose this setup I got it for $180 and that is why :) I am using watercooling for the cpu :) so heat is not a problem. I am using 2 fuji mas 36 gig 15k hdds (one as the os hdd and the rest for games and applications) DVD burner PC & C 510 sli power supply :) I got it up and running no problem at all. I have hit a wall thoug where I cannot pass over 169 mhz bus speed. I am running at default voltage since I increasewd the voltafge all the way up to 1.5 and did not help at all. Any recomendations to go get a higer oc? Also, the defaul voltage is only 1.27 I though it should be 1.35 but it is working fine so I cannot complai :)

You sure picked a POS to switch on... I'm not helping am I?

Anyway it's not the processor that needs volts it's your mem or losen timings to 5-5-5... or try one stick.

In reality I think you need faster mem, 4200 isnt even up to 805's stock bus, or run async if your board allows it.

Hehehheeh, this should time me up for next year when I can get a core 2 duo and motherboard for $114 :) That is how much I paid for the mobo and cpu :) Plus I only paid $70 for the 2 gigs of ram :) I am not complaining I just want to see if I can get a little bit more out of it :)

Well tried the 555 timmings and still hit the wall at 169 :( It has dividers so it is running at 220 instead of 266 but still it cannot go avobe 169.

You aint ever going to get a Core 2 duo (goodness that name sucks) setup for $114.. dispite the name sucking that the best processor leap since in a long time.. intel over doubled thier performance over that 805. Yeah the one you got.:p You won't see that every day. Add that to the fact they are in short supply and will be for at least a year as they try and pawn off all thier presslers on unsuspecting customers such as you.:) only 5% production this year is C2D (the abriviation grates on my nerves less) and switch over next year should be competed by summer...so still high demand for another year.

Try using just 2 sticks of ram. Mine is hitting 3.6ghz on the scythe ninja at 55c load. I think I am using 1.45v. Even at 3.6ghz it's performance sucks compared to an X2 or Conroe.

Well I tried with 2 sticks only and stil no go and I am not going to run with only 512 MB ram :) It is speedy and fell much snapier than my athlon 64 @2.4 gigs. I am only running a 3.3 gigs but it is running very cool I never go over 39c :) I am helping a frien build a computer and he is going to get some ddr-800 and I am going to try and see if it makes any difference :)

I have the same problem.

I am using ocz DDR2 800Mhz dual channel ram.
Also, I have the scythe ninja.

I hit the 169 mhz bus speed brick wall as well.
