just reformatted the shuttle with a new 250 gig sata drive, everything is as hoped...
but i CANNOT get internet. The ethernet controller is ok because on my old ide hard drive it will work, but on this sata install it wont. i nixed the router cause im on another system with that same router, and so its not gonna be the modem either. ive tried ipconfig /release and /renew and it just says that it cannot contact my DHCP server. the DHCP service in XP is running. it does this with even a minimal startup. nothing ever happend but that stupid "limited or no connectivity" id like to save time and not have to reinstall again any ideas?
edit: oh yeah this is a xp pro sp2 install. sp1 pro disc -> ms supplied sp2 install disc -> autopatcher july 15 updates.
