You're just going to confuse people with all this "technical talk". :D

what a load of crap. My SCSI card is a much bigger PCI bus hog than the SB Live is. I'm glad my P3V4X didnt use the 686B

I ran over to viahardware forums and Tracey-Anne who has done a lot of work in trying to fix this issue, along with countless others, been in touch with Creative and Via and posted this today:

QUOTE:
"Today I have got another email from the FIC RD department explaining that they have supplied the information to VIA, and in working with VIA have come to the decision that their original option to just alter the North Bridge will not be enough to fix the problems. They are now going to design a driver/utility which will fix the problems with the 686b South Bridge chip ? not altering the North Bridge.

As you might expect this is great news, because ultimately it means the problem will be fixed, and not just a symptoms.

I have not been given a timeframe for this utility, however I have been informed that I will be posted/emailed the Technical Paper when it is finished, which I hope to be attached to either a beta or hopefully the final version of the utility/driver once it is done."

++++++ NO LINKS PROVIDED ++++++ :)

<< Hehe, at this point I can't help but to reiterate that I told you so already in January ;) >>

jpprod, I remember that thread! I knew there was something wrong. Wasn't sure at the time, but now we know. Modus, PCResources, and a few others weren't very helpful and proclaimed there was absolutely no problems with the board or chipset. I think a few even pointed fingers and said we didn't know how to properly configure a computer.

Unfortunately the member ranking such as golden member have nothing to do with how good your posts are just that you have reached a certain number of posts. The only ranking that i am aware of for regular board members that is actually based on the quality/content of posts is the elite member status. I personally think that the rest of the rankings instead of simply being based on total posts should be derived from a combination of length of membership and total posts. There are many members here who have been here from the beginning who simply because they aren't frequent neffers are nothing more than Senior members. As for Hardwares statements well if you have been here a while i think you already know not to put much stock in them until there is some definitive proof of his assertions.

Don't spew ignorance. The 686B does much more than act as a hard drive controller.
