That pricing "analysis" is pretty much useless.
yes it's conjecture and some parts seem unknown (4TB PCI-e flash storage?), but I wouldn't say useless. We know how expensive high-end Xeon procs are. Max out every available option and it's going to be a $15k+ system. But OK, we'll know for certain when the iMac Pro is released.

I think Apple might axed Mac Pro completely.
Nah, they already said a modular Mac Pro is coming, but said it won't be coming until 2018. This is in addition to the iMac Pro, which they said will be released Dec. 2017. They also said a new Apple display will be released with the new Mac Pro.

This is straight from Phil Schiller:

“Since the Mac Pro is a modular system, we are also doing a pro display,” Schiller added. “There’s a team working hard on it right now."

“We think it’s really important to create something great for our pro customers who want a Mac Pro modular system, and that’ll take longer than this year to do.”

(quoting myself) The iMac Pro's maxed out config is only $13,199. Macs are becoming a better bargain every year! :tearsofjoy:

Here's a hallway at 21st Century Fox where I work (oh hey, now I work for Disney)

Rather than repurpose old iMacs, they go to their graves here. Far as I know, they don't even resell them, they just let them rot, unless there's a need for one somewhere. (Along with whole bins full of Mac peripherals.) Upgrading them is a PITA not worth bothering with at a large company level. It's the problem I've always had with iMacs.

You won't find a MacPro though- those are like gold. (Not the trashcans, they skipped even buying but a small handfull of those, but the actual tower Mac Pros. Those are all still in use in some form or other. I have one in my office doing server duties.)

Much as I never liked iMacs for professional work, I have to say, ever since I've had a fully spec'd i7 5k Retina iMac at my desk, I've loved it! It handles everything I throw at it for editing and the display.... I never want to look at a lesser display all day again.

Soon these same halls will be littered with a few newer gen iMacs as a few iMac Pros come in. No, I won't be getting one- don't really need one, but it would be nice!

I probably will get a newer modular Mac Pro when those are available next year though.

Never thought I'd enjoy using an iMac at work, but no complaints with the one I use every day, it's a workhorse. I can only imagine how awesome the new Pro is.

Ha! Looks like where I work! We just keep them in a room and toss em when we need space. I refuse to let my peeps take one as I don;t want to support them at all. On the rare occasion I give one away I explicitly tell them I will NOT offer any help or info on its use.
