Apple just released their new flat-panel iMac. Pretty wild looking. Kind of a cross between a desk light and a flat-panel monitor. :)

A "nice" puff piece article in today's Time magazine that might as have just been a paid advertisement for the thing written by "hacking expert" Josh Quittner.

Ach. Dont post mac news here. It brings out all those bitter morons that are unable to resist writing a non-sensical anti-apple post. If only they can come up with a better reason to hate a company than "apple sux".

Anyway, i saw that thing and it looks kinda cool for its market. (And its market isnt YOU so quit being so bitter.) Like it or not, its more much needed innovation for the basic home user. Imagine putting that on your grandma's desk. Its got such a small footprint that you'll actually have room on your desk for things that arent computer related. Plus, it looks like a desklamp and desklamps are officially the "in" product for 2002.

I think it looks awesome. Nice and small, and a steal at 1.2k - Considering the compact size, you pay more than a Dell $999 system, but the size makes all the difference.

Hot deal, man...hot deal.

I don't consider myself a bitter Mac lover (in fact, I don't have a strong preference for PC or Mac  ) but one of the things Apple does well is design innovation and being able to push out new designs with relative ease. This new iMac does indeed look like a desk lamp and if it looks as sleek in real life as it does in the pictures, space conscious users will be happy. Kudos to Apple on the new line, and I suppose Steve Jobs deserve a pat on the back as well.

Actual quote from Apple: "All models ship with the fearsomely fast NVIDIA GeForce2 MX graphics processor for photorealistic games and spectacular 3D graphics."

:) All I can do is bury my head in shame because some people believe this crap.

I personal like it. It would be a great piece to keep in the living room for internet browsering. Of course this is when I'm rich. :) Those aren't bad prices either ....

I can't believe that the designer of this thing neglected to include a pivot for the screen to rotate 90 degrees (from landscape to portrait). Maybe in the "New iMac 2.0."

Anyway, as a strictly PC user, I will admit the new iMac has its place, and will probably sell very well. What was laughable is all the cheering from the audience while Steve Jobs listed capabilities and software for the Mac which have already been available for other platforms for a while now.

Not really crap if you take it into perspective. I consider myself a computer enthusiast and my fastest vid card is much slower than that.

Depends on the perspective. My perspective is that I just upgraded FROM a Gf2 MX to a GeForce 3 and 'fearsomely fast' isn't quite the term I'd use to describe the MX. :)

Gotta hand it to Apple for coming up with innovative ideas...whether you think the new iMac is ugly or not...Apple gets props for trying to shake up the boring beige box scene...

available now???

from listening to steve jobs keynote at macworld this morning, the $1299 wont be available till march.. or was it april..

they're going to put the $1799 model with superdrive out first by the end of january, and the $1499 model in february.

if not for the fact that it looks unlikely you can upgrade that measily geforce 2 mx video, i would consider getting one.. it would clear out my clunky tower case and crt monitor..
