Does v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com not work for anyone else? I get a message about the network being busy, page loads find until it does it check.

thats pretty common when windows restarts from some update/install. Reboot again and i bet it will boot up in the normal amount of time that you are used to.

my winxp with sp2 won't apply the sp2 patches, it just says they fail every-time.

Yeah, it ate my soundcard drivers...I just reinstalled them and it worked fine though.
