New idea for The Forums

How about for all users under 5 posts... their new threads have to be approved by the mods before they show up on the boards.... CGtalk does this, sometimes it takes 24 hrs for the post to show up, but it would DEF reduce the spam we get here.... any opinions on the matter?

Sorry, but that is not possible. We are a small group of volunteers. We get so many registrations every day that there is no way we would have time to do that.

unfortunately i agree. It's a good idea, but the mods can't even keep up with everything now...

I disagree

so 5 posts x say what.. 50 users a day?
thats 250 posts. thats lots of looking through whatever etc.

well, u can usually tell if the thread is ok by looking at the title... if it looks like spam, its a no go

I suppose. but it's probably easier just to nuke a few threads.

Maybe not, right now the mods have to lock half the 1-posts anyway, plus read PMs from the lynch mob 🙂

they should just set up some sort of script or something that AutoBans anyone with an ipod link in the body of the thread 😉

It's always easier to clean up after, than it is to prevent it. So easy. 🙂

Probably much easier to delete or lock the spam threads than it is to approve all the others that would apply. Good idea though, but maybe with some tweaking. Like maybe a harsher language filter that would incorperate some words that are most likely assiciated with spam for say the first 5-10 posts.

The easiest method is to make a 24 hour waiting period for all new members to create threads in the most visited sub-forums such as OT.

Good idea but I would suggest:

1) Possibly increasing the minimum post count to 20? Ok maybe 10.
2) The Mods already have their hands full, assign some people ... ok this would never work.

Nevermind 🙂
