The preliminary information I've seen for what the D0 stepping did for OC'ing the i7 920 seems to me like it's not going to change the C0 world. So I've leapt onto the bandwagon and decided to upgrade my 975 based E6600 oc'd to 3GHz to the following:

Asus P6T: 205 euro
i7 920: 255 euro
6Gb OCZ Platinum 1600MHz 7-7-7-24: 142 euro
TRUE-1366: 60 euro

I'll be aiming for a 24/7 OC of around 3.8GHz.

Should arrive in the following days and I'll post the results. Anyone with any suggestions please do feel free...

Sonofabitch prices are high over in Europe!

Should be a really nice system.

What PSU you running?

Can I have your old parts? :D

Well, it's funny, some things are more or less in line with the exchange rate and some aren't; the MB is OK, the CPU a little less OK and the memory is about 30% cheaper in the US. The EU prices above include taxes though. Would have looked worse a few months ago when the euro was stronger.

The PSU is an OCZ powerstream 620W, which may be a little stretched, we'll see.

The old machine I was planning to recycle as an undervolted HTPC... sorry!

I see you have a G92 8800GTS which is the same card I use. I'm waiting to upgrade that, as it seems to be OK for all the stuff I run on my 1600x1200 monitor. Is the 9800 GTX+ in some sort of SLI with the 8800gts?

OK arrived today and just set the beast up. No problems at all, after an initial boot and driver upgrade tried overclocking the bclk to 180 with everything on auto. Booted no problem, got 3.6GHZ at 37°C idle and 57°C load and 1.28v on the cpu.

I'm happy.

Looks like a lot more potential here, but for now it's pretty funky that you can get a 250 euro chip running like a frakking beast this easily.

Thanks to all here for sharing their experience.
