New HSU sub...

My HSU VTF-1 sub was delivered today along with my X-MTM mains.

I set everything up but couldn't get the sub to kick in at all. I tried every setting before I realized I had plugged the sub's RCA connector into the receiver's subwoofer analog IN instead of its sub pre-amp out.

I pulled the connector out of the receiver and my sub made the loudest boom I have ever heard out of a sub. It literally felt like my clothes moved. I moved the plug over to the other side and everything is just dandy.

What are the chances I damaged the sub? What would be some thing to look for? I looked at the woofer and don't see any obvious damage, everything looks clean.

It's probably fine. Was it a boom or a "Clack". If a sub bottomed out it will sound much different than a typical bass note hit.

Even if it did bottom out, one time typically won't damage anything. So enjoy without worry.
 
Yeah, sometimes I get a little crazy with the bass on my Onkyo HTIB sub, yeah I tuned it very little, have to go back there and turn the dial sometimes...
I might get a new 10" driver one day and mount it in the box since the amp seems good enough already 😱
 
HSU is good stuff. You'll be fine....just make sure to turn things off next time you're plugging / unplugging things 🙂.
 
Yeah...power everything off if you're not sure what's going on. If it was just a single *BUMP*, you're probably fine.

That is the crazy part. The receiver was off but the sub was still plugged in. It initially sounded like that low hum you hear when you touch an couple of L/R RCA jacks together then it popped like I said. I think the sub was fine, it was a typical bass boom.

Carrying a 40 pound sub around a room to find the best position is tiring.

The reason this happened was because the sub amplifies signals. When you connect it to the outside of the coax terminal you are grounding it from whatever potential it was at. This usually causes a 60 Hz hum
