New HP laptop has TWO hidden/system partitions...what are they?

I just got a new HP laptop (DV9060). Now I know that there's a restore partition there (helps restore laptop to factory state, and allows you to create restore set of DVDs). That partition is 11.71 GB (about 10.6GB actually used).

But then there's ANOTHER hidden partition, of 2GB size (1.39GB used) , at the beginning of the disk. 1.39GB??!? What's in this partition??

Geez, that sure is a lot of wasted hard drive space...

It may be where the OS is loaded on the system. Most, if not all hard drives do not actually have the physical amount described once an operating system is loaded. Example, my 100 gb drive registers as 93.1 gb.

Chances are it is the restore OS (and could be DOS.) When you set restore in BIOS, it then boots there. DOS and some OS' need to boot in the first 8GB.
