New HP DM1-4010US and Minimized System Image

Buying the new DM1-4010US 11.6" model laptop. Never owned an HP before, but this model has received many good reviews and I need something small and light for travels and very basic computing: internet and emails mostly.
As you know it comes preloaded with Windows 7 Home Premium. I have two other laptops purchased within the past year, (both Dell's). My preference is to format the new machine and clean install a full version of Windows 7. No crap, no BS, no bloatware.
But I was told that the HP's offer the option of something called Minimized System Image, whereby you can reinstall the OS and drivers only, without the usual assortment of junk. I'm wondering if I can save the time of doing a clean install and the cost of buying another Windows 7 disk?
I guess my question is does this specific model laptop offer the Minimized System Image installation option? And for those of you who have used this option, what's your opinion of it versus a format and clean install?
Thank you.

I bought one yesterday. I'm loving it so far. I was playing Torchlight on high and was seeing framerates in the 30s. Played Warhammer 40K: Winter Assault and on default settings frame rates were in the 50-60 range. This thing is much faster than my old acer netbook.

Some things of note:

1. The 4GB memory only takes up one slot leaving the other free. Amazon was pointing me towards a 2 chip kit for the 8gb... I think it is a mistake...
2. My USB ports on the right side are too tight to plug in my USB mouse receiver. I posted the issue @ the HP forums.

All in all, I'm super surprised with this netbook (probably closer to an ultraportable in performance). I bought an 13" asus laptop a couple of months ago and while it was faster, the size and battery life really turned me off and I returned it. The DM1 is a lot more portable and fast enough to do most things that you need to do and even play some recent games. Great buy.

As far as your question... I think that they do offer some way to do this, but from what I understand it doesn't prevent all the bloat from being installed. Like I said, I got mine and it took me an hour or so to uninstall the crapware. Not as much as I thought there would be.

Likewise, after limited use I am pleased with this unit. Definitely much more machine than a netbook. Maxed out the memory to 8GBs.
It does offer the option to run the Minimized System Image, which I did. Eliminates much of the unwanted, (at least for me), programs and apps that come preloaded. Leaves some of the HP stuff on it, but that was easy enough to uninstall. For around $400 it's a good buy.

Two questions for you:

1. Can you check the USB ports on yours? My right side ports are super tight.

2. Can you link to the memory you got? Did you get get 1 additional 4gig stick or did you buy a 2x kit?

The ram was so cheap I just ordered 1 stick of 4g. I'm not sure why amazon was pointing buyers to a two stick set. There is an open slot.

Both right side USB ports are normal. However, the left side USB port is so damn tight I need a pliers to pull out the thumb drive I used to test it. Plus, it doesn't seem to be working as the driver wouldn't install. 😕 I'll have to look into this.

I purchased 2 sticks of 4GB memory, (Crucial), from Amazon. It was about $35. Bargains can be found.

I have an older version of the DM1z, my USB ports are also insanely tight.

This isn't terribly uncommon though. They should loosen up with age 😀

The USB I'm talking about is as tight as a crab's ass under water. Unusable tight. And it doesn't seem to be working, either. When I have the time I'm going to play with it bit and, if necessary, give HP a call.
