New HP/Compaq nc6000 and nc8000 Centrino/ATi9600 laptops

Since both of these HP notebooks have the 9600 Pro does that mean they have 128MB's of RAM?

Also, is there any way of getting a closer look at these two notebooks? The tiny picture they show doesn't cut it.

Also, should I buy one of these or wait for a consumer level notebook? I really want a notebook similar to the X1000 with the 9600 Pro.

The nc6000 seems to be a pretty good machine based on the specifications - a direct competitor to the ThinkPad T4x series. Can't wait to see a review 🙂

Any pics to show how big it is?

The bottom pics show it next to and then under a ThinkPad T40. The nc6000 is clearly a few millimeters deeper and thicker than the T40, but the T40 is already very small for a 14" LCD notebook. Given that the HP spec lists it as about 5 lbs, I would guess that it not big at all.

Probably about the same size (or slightly smaller) as a Dell D600 or 600m.

The pdfs show the nc6000 with a 32 or 64mb Mobility Radeon 9600 (not labelled as "Pro"). The pdfs show the nc8000 with a Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro with 64mb or 128mb of memory.

Hmm...the popup overviews for all the nc6000s say Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro though, so maybe the PDFs specs are not accurate for the US models.

It looks like HP edited their catalog web pages overnight. Information about the nc6000 now references the ATI 9600 and not the 9600 Pro. I guess that they corrected a mistake in the original description of the nc6000.

Well they didn't fix the 'product overview' popup on the nc6000 page, that still says "ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro graphics controller."

Another question I have is whether the nc6000 has a 1394 firewire connection or not? That same popup description says it does have one, but the PDF does not list 1394. Also, looking at the detail pictures from my link above, I can't see a 1394 port on the nc6000. On the other hand, the nc8000 does list 1394 on the PDF.
