yup, i read all the novels in plot order, not publication date.... it's kinda odd how he wrote them all over the timeline out of order

Have you read the books? Pretty good IMO.

which was your favorite? I think Lt. Bush is one of the more memorable of fictional characters......

Thanks! Read a lot of history but not "Ships of The Line or Hornblower".

Allways enjoyed Gregory Peck playing the role. Viewed that movie many times.

Actually, the character horatio is fictional but everything is set during Napoleonic France with accurate historical events (Trafalgar is one of the settings). Although fictional, they do a good a job as any of immersing one in a time period.

Haven't seen the new movie, but I'd go with Horatio, cuz he's been through the ranks up to an admiral

yea, it's a shame b/c the books were great!

the episodes varied a lil bit from the plot, but were all great entertainment

What's a Horatio Hornblower and how does he compare to a Capt. Jack Aubrey?

Hornblower is the character that started the whole Age of Sail 'series' and has acted as the template for the authors that followed( Dudly Pope, Alexander Kent, Patrick O'Brian, Richard Woodson, James L. Nelson... etc.. ). Off the top of my head I would say that the film character Jack Audrey is a little more 'raw' than the more 'polished' Hornblower. Hornblower thinks, while Audrey is most importantly a man of action. That being said, the Hornblower series is a must to watch if you are interested in the Age of Sail.

And for those asking, the new DvD set comes out 12/11

POLL: Will his marriage last? 🙂
yes - people didn't divorce back then

Course you could divorce back then - you just had to be male, have a spare £10,000 or so, and get an Act of Parliament enacted to enable you to ditch your wife. Easy Peasy
Hehehehe
