This is what I read. Sorry I misinterpretetd it.

"my last sys was/is

2.8 @ 3.4
98oo pro
Good sys it was"

That says to me your last system was and still is the 9800 Pro.

Really, you should itemize all components in your first note. Saves all this blathering. back and forth.

A) Install vista with 2 gigs
b) use mem test on your mem
c) install the next two gigs
d) memtest again
e) the latest nvidia drivers are horrible, use the beta or the drivers that came with the card.
f) Research instead of rant, if you got a bad product you will eventually find it. I am sorry if you do actually have a bad product, I know how bad it feels when your ready to go and something does not work.

NOTE: make sure you are not connected to your network as you install you OS. Also, the 8800 GTS is not that great of a card by itself. yes, DX10 support, but unless you OC it (and it is a decent overclocker) its about a serious drop from GTX and ULTRA on high end games (FPS wise).

Sheesh. I've posted the solution already in the thread, its a shame the OP wants to blame Vista vs actually fix the problem.

Yeah - but maybe OP has the same trouble I do with your link - it goes nowhere and times out. ??

Again, maybe he just doesn't dig Vista. :)

The link works fine here. He can always google 'vista control panel nvidia' or 'vista control panel closing' and get more than enough information about the issue. Instead he just bashes Vista and keeps reinstalling.

How could a MAJOR hardware vender--NVidia--NOT have drivers that work right??
That potentially affects many millions of customers???

Well;

I wish it was as simple as just "ONE BAD PRODUCT"...
I feel this is part of an on-going problem of Hardware/software manufactorers selling "crap" that hasn't been fully tested to work as promised...

And Yes! The problem--loosing Control Panel access is solved--by removing 2 sticks of mem...
I just think manufacterors need to do much better...:)

While I agree with what you're saying about the quality and lack of quality control of computer parts, you need to follow boglwe's advice. Test each stick of ram with memtest.

It surely seems a Lot Less satifying and a Whole lot More Complex to Build a new Box...
I use to enjoy the Persecution a whole lot more...:)

Lets see, i put a screw driver through one $250 mobo, a $400 video card randomly fried on me, second mobo was the wrong one so i gave it to a friend and got a new one, 4 keyboards, 3 mine, 2 sets of speakers, going on 12 head sets, and now i think my PSU might be acting up.

One of my computer savvy friends says i'm cursed and EVERY time i go over to his house something unusual screws up on his computer. Still here and playing all the newest games.

Hope i made you feel better.
