New headphones won't work

I just picked up some TRITTON AX360 Digital Audio Gaming Headphones. The only way I can get them to work is to unplug my speakers from my sound card and plug the headphones in. I tried to use the Coaxial S/PDIF Out port and the Optical S/PDIF Out port on the motherboard but they did not work. The support given with the headphones is pretty lame so I thought I would post here to see if any of you have had this problem or know what this newb needs to do. I read the motherboard manual front to back and found little to nothing. Only thing about sound is the soundcard that it comes with that I did not use. Thanks!!!

Here is my system:
ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit
Leadtek WinFast PX8800 GTS TDH GeForce 8800GTS 640MB
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB 7200 RPM
Running Windows XP Pro

You might need to enable those optical ports. Try looking in the mixer applet for the digital output and see if it is muted.

Do you know what I should be looking for? I don't see anything that refers to the two ports in the mixer. Now the mixer that is popping up is the Creative mixer, do I need to pull up something else?

If I recall correctly the Creative mixer has "basic" and "advanced" views. You might not see the digital ports in the basic view, which is the default I think.
