I have the Panny 42" EDTV and it looked like crap with my regular Directv receivers - I upgraded to the HD receiver and am very happy now!

You have an HD receiver for a non-HD TV? 😕

Well, I went down there today. Asked about digital cable, mainly if the quality of the picture would be better. The lady said NOT REALLY since all of the lines here in our town were re-done to fiber cable. I then asked about HD, and she said for $6.99 plus $9.99 a month I can get a reciever and about 8 channels - ABC, FOX, CBS, NBC, ESPN, DISCOVERY and something else, to me its not worth it. What are your thoughts? Would digital cable have a clearer picture?

HD content is absolutely worth it. I don't understand why you would invest in such an expensive TV if you aren't going to watch HD channels.

Digital cable may or may not have a clear picture for standard channels, but HD channels will blow you away with their picture quality if you haven't seen them yet.

I pay my local cable company $59.95 for all digital and analog channels. This included all HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, The Movie Channel, etc. I also pay 2 X $13.95 for 2 HDTV PVR receivers, one for the living room where I have 57" Sony CRT, and one for the Home Theater room where I have a Panasonic AE700 LCD projector and a 129" diagonal screen. I also have a minimal 256K internet connection for ~$25 each month. There are not very many HDTV channels but I get local CBS and PBS stations along with HBO, SHO, DISC, ESPN, STRZ, HDMOV, and HDNET. I may have forgotten one or two channels. But the HD content is well worth paying the extra money for. Go for it, you won't regret it.

yea, but its only like 8 channels

They will certainly be adding more HD channels. At least get digital if you now have an HD TV. Analog just doesn't cut the mustard.

I have comcast in seattle and i get 16 channels(at least, maybe there are some i dont know about). I already had the HD box for hdr, and dont pay much more a month. With internet, movie channels, HDR (like tivo), and hd channels we pay little under a bill a month.
