Hey.. i recently bought an hitachi 7k60 to put in my toshiba satellite 5205-s703... i put it in my stylebay adapter ( with the caddy ) And inserted it in the stylebay.. I tried booting from it but it said

"intel boot agent

media test failure

please check cable"

anyhow, i booted from my original toshiba hard disk and i went to disk management in ADMIN TOOLS.... it does detect and show the new hitachi but it says "UNALLOCATED" .. ( have attached a pic to show this ) my question is , how do i use that new hdd which seems to be unallocated??? my new hdd is connected properly i think coz it detects it in disk management and also in Device Manager

thanks much

I'm assuming that the "stylebay" is a modular bay, yes? You didn't attach a picture that I can see, but in this case I think that the "please check cable" error message is a little misleading; it's probably a catchall error. Are you sure that you've formatted the hard drive, and that there's a bootable OS located on it? Why are you doing that, anyway-- as an easy way to get dual-boot ability for linux or something else?

Well first things first. He hasn't formatted the drive which is y it says unallocated. and it prob doesn't show up on his list of aval hdds in my computer. Second he is prob replacing his older drive with this new one. But that is just a guess.. All he has to do is insert the restore drive from Toshiba in his cd drive and start the machine. It should format the drive and all.

Would simply suggest removing the primary drive, and physically replacing it with the newer unit (the Travelstar 7k60). Format, partition, and install, as necessary. If for some unknown the drive itself is physically defective (doesn't appear to be the case, as the drive is detected in the device manager) or issues are encountered with your specific machine, will be easier to deduce in this manner.

After successful use of the 7k60, then attempt to add the older drive into the modular bay. Any data that physically existed on the older drive can then be accessed, unless there is a hardware/installation problem related to the modular bay.

Dealing with one unknown at a time is preferrable over attempting to determine the cause of a problem with several unknowns.

well it tried replacing the old hdd with the new hdd in the primary slot too... it didnt boot... gave the same INTEL BOOT AGENT error message as originally posted..

but hmm.. didnt try inserting a recovery cd then.... shall try that out... is there any other way that u guys can think of formatting, etc??

do u think the JUMPER might cause a problem in anyway??? should i buy a jumper since its not present in my package? or do u think i could do without it?
