New hard drive small problem

Ok, I got a new 200gb seagate suprisingly I got it installed and working correctly the problem is the screw holes don't match up with my case so I can't screw it in. So it's just sitting in the little shelve like things unscrewed. Is this going to hurt it?

Not necessarily. I just would be very careful when moving or touching your tower. Very strange that your case doesn't have standardized holes for screws. Does your case have slides that you can install?

That doesn't sound right. Everything has to be standardized. Please post a link to the type of case you have.

It has a space right under my other HD for another one but this HD is about an inch bigger then my other one so it doesn't fit right. It's reading as 137gb I did a search on the forum and it said download service pack 1. I got this xp from my dad so I can't download it so i'm going to go buy one. I can just install the new one right over the top of this one right?

dude, download the administrative version of service pack 1.... (or sp2 for that matter) it wont matter whether your copy is legit or not if you use the administrative version in most cases, unless you have a really messed up common CD key...
also, yeah i wouldnt leave the hard drive loose like that.... there HAS to be something, a sliding devide or even 1 hole so it kinda stays in place...
what i strongly recommend is buying a removable HD tray, then you can leave it in the 5'4 bay with your optical drives and it will be even safer and cooler than in its designated position.

i tried finding it real quick but i cant.. its a 266mb file i have it on cd... im POSITIVE its on the microsoft site, you just have to look around for it, sorry i would give u a link but im in the middle of something.. anyway good luck!

I have a not so legal copy as well and you can still download service packs. Especially if only two people have it, it shouldn't matter.
