new hard drive installation and windowz xp

i recently bought an 80 gigger to upgrade my system to compliment my 40 gig. for some reason, when the computer boots, it reaches the windows xp loading screen and then crashes! the only way it does not crash is when there is no power to the 80 gig and that suks nuts cuz i want to transfer the files to my 80 gig then format my 40 gig..
ne1 have ne suggestions?

Check the jumper on the new HDD it should be slave or CS, it the 2 HDDs are set Master it won't Boot

So the 80GB is being slaved to the 40GB?


Like the previous poster stated, double check the jumps on the hard drive. Check if the original HD is not set to Cable Select. If so, set it to Master and the 80GB to Slave.

Try disconnecting your cd drive and install the 2nd drive on that IDE channel.
