new hard disk help

Why would you buy another Seagate? Do you think it's ok for drives to fail in less than 5 yrs?

WD is good.. but I use Hitachi Ultrastar's ( HUA723020ALA641). They are 2TB and still available NEW for $44.50 each from GoHardDrive (ebay item 111253784610)
"Enterprise Grade hard drive is the world’s first 7200 RPM hard drive rated at 2.0 million hours MTBF."
I have 5 running in 3 dif machines, some since 2013.. No issues and still showing 100% health, they're workhorse drives. WD bought them out in 2012 & Newegg also has them @ $54.99..

I have a Hitachi with only 15621 power on hours with 34 reallocated sectors (about 4 months ago it had 2 reallocated sectors).

Not sure when it is going to die, but this drive is not that old.

P.S. I would have cloned the disk already.....but I can't because it is storing copy once (ie, DRM protected) cable TV recordings on Windows Media Center.

I have several dozen Seagates in my three unRAID setups that have been working great for four, five, and six years with no issues. I also have a couple dozen WD drives with similar ages in my unRAIDs. Both brands have been reliable in my use.

Yes but i dont purchase the 512gb version because i need the space. the 512gb is usually a good amount faster than the 240gb version which is also faster than teh 128gb.. Always good to have a little extra and not use a SSD near capacity. but 240gb is plently
