New GTX970 fans not spinning, "LED1" light illuminated...problem?

Hey guys, not sure whether to post this in Tech Help or here, but here goes.

I am in the middle of building a new system with an ASUS GeForce GTX 970.

I've just connected all the essential power connectors, to test the machine and make sure everything spins up and gets power.

And everything seems to. Case fans spin, CPU fan spins, power/case LEDs are on. However, the two fans on the GTX will spin on start up for about 5 seconds or so, then stop.

The "LED_1" white light appears over the power connector, and nothing else.

It also outputs just fine, as my new monitor displays the BIOS/UEFI boot screen via DVI connection.

Any ideas? I assume the fans SHOULD be spinning at all times. And as a sidenote, I've tried 3 different PCI-E 6+2 pin power connectors that came with my PSU. The PSU is also brand new (850 Watt Corsair HTX).

Help.

is it a modular power supply?

if it is make the the cable is plugged in to the correct spot.

im certain the led has to be green for go.

Have you tried to run a game?

Maybe your card is on idle state.


About the leds:

ASUS has also trimmed the standard 2 x 6-pin PCI-E power connections down to a single 8-pin one, which has an LED to tell you when your cable is correctly connected and working. This design makes cable management easier, but there's a chance it could negatively impact the card's overclocking potential.

LEDs on the rear of the PCB turn from red to white to let you know that you've properly connected these power cables.

About the fans

Thanks to the large heatsink assembly and high performance continuous direct contact copper heatpipe design along with dual fan implementation the card does not have to aggressively ramp its fans. This helps to have the card operate at near silent levels under gaming load. I was truly impressed with how card this card was immediately audible unless I literally moved my ear up to the card. The card is deceptively quiet especially for its size. More impressive is the fact that this near silent operation is under demanding gaming loads as everything from checking your email to reading a website to watching videos or movies as well as light 3D game engines will not cause the STRIX to ramp it fans. In those idle or light loading situations the fans will operate at 0 RPM netting you a 0dB fan profile. To be clear the fans will not spin at all!

In other words, you are all good to go

This card doesn't have fans that spin until 60ish degrees and the white led light means you have power. If you want to make sure it's stable in the system run valley or heaven benchmark.

Thanks a lot guys!!

The included "manual" (pamphlet, really) makes no mention of the LED lights or troubleshooting.

I just assumed that the fans spin at all times, at some RPM, if working properly.
If this sounds ok, I guess I'll go ahead and finishing setting up, install windows, and go from there.
