New GPU, still necessary to run DDU with windows 10?

Running Windows 10 Pro and have a new GPU coming in a couple days. Is running DDU under safe mode something that is still necessary these days or can you just use the standard uninstaller in windows and shut down to install the new card?

I've always used ddu no matter what. It doesn't hurt and it's only a one extra step. I've uninstalled and reinstalled without it before and nothing bad happened.

It used to be standard procedure but I've never swapped hardware under windows 10 believe it or not lol

Windows 10 is better with identifying hardware now once it's installed. I've never had any problems related to that. But I do use ddu to make sure I get everything thing clean before each Nvidia driver install. One time one of my installs failed and it was buggy.

I had one issue when I first got Windows 10 (so quite some time ago) where it automatically identified what it thought was the best driver for my 970 at the time, and it overwrote the latest driver that I had already installed.

I just re-installed the latest from NVidia and it never reverted again. This was when Win10 was first released publicly so hopefully it just doesn't do that anymore.

IME, I've gotten more problems as a result of using DDU or its predecessor Driver Sweeper. I wouldn't use them except as last resort.

Only needed DDU one time since Win7 and at that time i provoked it as changed from amd to nvidia without even deinstalling amd drivers. Normally just uninstalling drivers gives no problems nowadays.

Using DDU won't hurt and you are just being through as to avoid any possible issues. I suggest you uninstall drivers with DDU before placing the new card in.

Are you switching card manufacturers? (i.e. going from AMD to Nvidia or Nvidia to AMD)? That is the only time I have needed to use DDU recently. All others have gone smoothly without issues just uninstalling the original driver before uninstalling the card and re-installing the driver after installing the new card.

Probably not. Ran AMD and Nvidia hardware in the same PC, simultaneously, no issues, even ran off the built-in Intel crap and left it all there for months/a year/or so. Every once in a while, my paranoia would kick in and I'd wipe the slate clean with DDU, but I haven't legit needed it in a good long while.
