So my Google play store app is updated to the new UI. I see the categories at the top, and then there is text underneath that says "Categories" but under that there is nothing. Its just blank empty gray space, isn't there suppose to be content? Pictures, latest apps, whats new etc... I see nothing. Anyone else having this issue?

So they're pushing out a Play store update that doesn't work properly on the flagship GOOGLE phone? That seems odd, but it doesn't surprise me much.

Did you sideload the apk from someone or is this the official update pushed from Google? The servers aren't giving you the content in your region, people who sideloaded the apk before it was officially available in your region are seeing this issue.

Hmmmm, QueBert jumping to an unflattering conclusion about Google without all the facts. That seems odd, but it doesn't surprise me in the least. :p

It's very common for Google to push unfinished updates to random people, maybe for beta testing? He got a Play update where a lot of Nexus 4 owners might not get one for weeks. It's not really me jumping to a conclusion here as this is just how Google does things. I can't speculate on why op's having problems, it might be something he did for all I know. But Google's selective dispatching of new versions of apps is long standing.

For the record, I just bought the Nexus 4 and their wireless charging orb.

Its a forum, you can ask him questions before leaping to conclusions.

So?

Also I thought the HTC One was the only Android phone that you'd consider. What changed?

So what? It's not like he's totally wrong. We all leap to conclusions. It just so happens QueBert's conclusion offends the Android camp, and so they need to rush to defense?

Yes it could be user error, but I'm pretty sure most people using the new Play Store sideloaded it. Perhaps this is one that updated because Google pushed a new app? Anyway, I don't know, but QueBert's analysis of Google's handling of apps isn't far from the truth. I wouldn't be surprised if this was user error, but I wouldn't be surprised if Google botched yet another launch.

This has nothing to do with your imaginary camps and everything to do with trying to troubleshoot the OPs problem.

Posting what amounts to "LOL Google" without understanding the issue is really not helpful.

Which it would have been more helpful to ask a question rather than post a "lol Goole" reply, yes?

Which may have nothing at all to do with the OPs problem.

I figured it out, the content server only works in the U.S currently, Canada, and Europe has not "officially" gotten the update yet. I just rooted my phone and the gapps that I loaded to my phone contained the 4.0.25 Google Play app.

I must say even with the main screen content not working the layout is very clean and sharp, I like it 100x better than the previous layout, keep up the good work Google. I guess I'll have to wait until the content servers are updated for Canada before I can see all the goodies in the glorious format it was meant to be displayed in.

More like a the OP downloaded a ROM on the internet that contained something that he wasn't supposed to have in his region. Google didn't push anything to his phone, the OP went out of the way to install crap from the internet.
The "new" Play Store has only been updated in the US market so far.

Amazing that some people here(especially QueBert) will automatically rush to conclusion blame Google for everything.
What's next, they'll blame Google for the cause of their bad breath?

How do you know OP sideloaded it? my Nexus 4 has it, and I damn sure didn't sideload anything. So if Google isn't pushing the update to random people, then magic's the only explanation.

And does your version have all the content missing?

Are you implying that pushing a big update out in phases (or 'random people' in your words) is a bad thing??

I love how you don't ever read and you keep saying stuff that is blatantly wrong.

Google said in their press released they're rolling out globally in waves over a few weeks.

http://officialandroid.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-fresh-new-look-for-google-play.html

The redesigned Google Play store app starts rolling out today for Android phones and tablets running Android 2.2 (Froyo) and above. People around the world should see it over the next few weeks. Get ready for a simpler Google Play.

Because unlike you, I have common sense to not automatically jump to conclusions or frothing my mouth at Google/Android for a user created error and blatantly makeup shit?

I suppose pirating Google apps by downloading "Gapps" for your custom ROM that belong to another region is not a valid explanation?

I have you all figured out now, QueBert:
1.) Pirate Google apps from the intrawebs.
2.) Complain that the Google apps you pirated from the intrawebs is not working properly.
3.) Blame Google and/or Android for your user created problem.
4.) ???
5.) Profit.

Downloading Gapps isn't pirating at all.
Only because Google(the copyright owner of those apps) doesn't have a problem with it. ^_^
If HTC was the copyright owner though, I'm sure Goo.im would have been served with a takedown notice.

Well this got out of hand fast...

Anyhoo I just got the update on my gs3 a couple days ago (legitimately) . I like it, looks slick. I thought the old one looked fine too but this is better.
