New route overview sucks. Used to be that just your route was highlighted larger and more saturated from the back ground and you could easily see the traffic on your route. Now its the same size as everything and has a blue line drawn over it so its almost impossible to see the traffic info. Have to see if I can revert.

Its. The Exact. Same. Thing.

You type "ok maps" and it caches the area your screen is on.

From AndroidPolice:

The drawback to the new button is that if the area you have selected is too large, you have to keep opening the search UI over and over until the selected area is within the acceptable dimensions. That's actually pretty annoying, if I'm honest.

Offline maps / cache can no longer can be cleared - the options are gone. If you want to clear these things, you will presumably have to clear the entire app cache from your phone's settings menu.

Offline maps is not the same as 6.x, and its not the best interface in 7.0

I just got to use this today and I hate it...... everything said in the first page was true. Update makes no sense to me.

Still hate it. The menu toggle (i.e., traffic, transit, etc.) contrast is so crappy that I can't even tell if they are off or on if I'm using my phone outdoors with sunglasses or something. What was wrong with the check mark or whatever it was? Something I can actually see...

I swear they don't take in account that people are using this in a moving vehicle. I need to be able to read it at a glance.

I haven't had the update yet but the old gmaps was pretty horrible like that anyway. There was no real visual cues, it seemed to assume that you were going to rely on audio instructions. Which was fine until you came to a complicated roundabout or junction.

Maybe its because of the wonky button layout on the HTC One, but where the heck is the Exit button for Maps 7.0? Used it to get to and from Lake Pleasant to central Phoenix Sunday, and couldn't find the exit Navigation button anywhere.

Back button doesn't work?

Just minimizes it.

I see it, little X. But, it also disappears if you move the map around at all, need to hit Resume, then X, then Back x2 to actually get out. Lot of button presses. :/

Little X does the same as the back button for me. (manually updated the app. Felt a bit left out).

It's quite a change, not sure how I feel yet. Will try it out on the drive home. I like the choice of routes though.

So tried it out on the way home and I like it. I like the bar at the bottom that you can tap to toggle between ETA, distance remaining and time remaining. I find the map display a bit clearer at junctions as well.

Tried this a couple days ago. Thought it was crap. Super laggy on a Note2. Impossible to use one handed to check traffic while driving, need my damn zoom arrows. Actually liked the way things looked. Typical google, added a bunch of stuff, while removing all kinds of shit we all use.

Double tap the screen and move your finger up or down to zoom. Much handier that way. I used that before this update

Hmm completely forgot about that, does work well. Still prefer the predetermined zoom levels with the buttons, but at least this is one hand friendly.

1. How do you see the map scale?

2. With a route highlighted on the map, where did the dot go at turns, the one that you could tap and it would tell you which street to turn on, etc?

Holy crap. Just got this on my Nexus 10 and it lags like hell. Maybe 10-15fps tops.

It's *arite* on my Nexus 4 for speed, but I still miss the old maps' functionality.

Nav or maps screen? Works fine on my S3, the same as the old maps.
