New gfx card for friend

6800nu then unlock and overclock it, its a more viable solution than a 6600gt right now with it's price.

edit: actually i jsut checked on egg and they least 180. get the 6600gt.

You are going to want a Native DirectX9 video card. So definitely the 9600 is not a good option. I would say most people here would suggest a 6600GT with that kind of budget.

this one comes with a heatsink if you plan on overclocking

...otherwise get this model, which will save you an extra PCI slot:

I recommend this model since with the shipping included on the price tag, it will even out at around a little under ~150 USD -

9800 Pro is much better than a 9600 XT because the memory interface which is 256-bit plus, regardless of the core-clock and memory clock rates, will perform much faster with its more powerful graphics engine.

It is mentioned widely over the Internet that the 6600 will outkill any generation below it. However, you'll have to put up an extra $15 for the card including shipping & handling. The Radeon 9800 Pro will handle the game just as fine.

256 RAM on a 9600 does nothing because the GPU is to slow to utilize that much video RAM. and actually, the 128 meg 9600's are FASTER than the 256's. Its a marketing ploy, and thats all it is...
