<< The YES! Is a product of passion, courage and visionary thinking. Herbert Funke and Philipp Will - now the directors of Funke & Will Aktiengesellschaft - did not want to complete their Auto Engineering studies at Cologne Technical University with just ordinary degrees. They came to the decision to develop a 'radical' sports roadster based on an aluminum space frame. Not long after this they got to know Oliver Schweizer, who was just about to finish his design degree in Karlsruhe. Consequently, three final dissertations at two universities in two different parts of Germany led to the creation of "The Most Uncompromising Car of the Moment" (Auto Motor und Sport 14/2000).

Minimalism they have achieved, with a curb weight of 1290 lbs. (585kg). Combine this with a version of Volkswagen's 1.8-liter turbo motor with 5-valve technology, tuned to 286hp and mounted amidships, and you have a truly intoxicating concoction. The YES! accelerates from 0-62mph (100km/h) in a blisteringly fast 4.1 seconds that would make a Porsche turbo owner look over and take notice. Keep on the throttle, and the car tops out at 164mph (264 km/h).

Reminds me of a cross between an Audi TT and new MR2. Different, but something that could grow on me.

Pretty cool that they have a 286HP version of the 1.8t under the hood. Should really help costs out. It's fast, and should pull *decent* gas milage considering that the 170HP version pulls 32+ MPG on the highway.

1290 lbs, 286 hp, and 62 takes 4.1 seconds? With the p/w ratio this thing has, I would have expected faster. Ahh well... not a great looking car, but sounds like fun
 
I refuse to believe that the guy who named it the YES! is anything but a sodomy specialist of world-class proporitions.

maybe compared to a lambo or something, or maybe if the boost is off (might be if you're just cruising... depends on where they set the turbo to kick in). i'll bet its a real kick in the ass to drive.

Hmm - not too bad, actually. In all fairness to its builders, this is a super-specialized little car, a la the Elise, and I am willing to cut them some slack to the extent that the car looks really odd. Not for me, probably, but this would make an incredibly fun Sunday afternoon canyon cruiser. Doubtful it could ever be made street-legal in the US, though, even if it were produced.
