Is this a sale item? Or has the price just dropped? I am waiting for it to go down even more. Have a 4200 Ti and wonder if it's worth the jump.
I would say no. The performance increase is minimal. And if you got all that money for such a small upgrade, might as well shell out another 100 for a noticeable performance increase to 9700 pro.

I have the same question about mine. Personaly, I think that video cards are getting so far ahead of games that waiting a year for a reasonable price drop won't hinder your gaming in any way. I cant think of any major engines coming out until Doom 3, and I think origianly they were designing that engine around the nvidia ti series anyway. Thats not to say that the ti4200 will work perfectly with Doom 3.
Play: Yes
Be capable of high res/AA/Af: Probably Not.
I have a Ti200 and have been looking for a better card.The Ti200 is a great card,but in my case I have a 21 inch monitor and any game that is run at less than 1280x1024 looks like crap.When I got the card,I was able to jack the setting on all the games but slowly I've had to tone it down.GTA3,BF1942,and several others were getting choppy at 1280x1024(no AA/AF).
In the end it all depends on what you demand from the card.I have high demands due to my monitor.

I had my Ti4200 for a While... Before that I had a GF2Pro.... Before that I had the TNT2 M64
Personally, I think I'm gonna wait until after this generation of cards, Nvidia FX series and Radeon 9xxxx Series of cards are replaced.
And what JubJub4 said about video cards being so ahead of games is very true.
I get a *taste of the new games these days but nothing beats counterstrike. And even GF2Pro is sufficient for that Game.
and I'm sure whenever the Condition Zero comes out, My Ti4200 will do just fine. Oh, BTW, My Ti4200 is running as fast as the Ti4600.

I'm running a stock 4200 at 4800 speeds, just install coolbits. I have no issues with it overclocked, it's rock solid at 300 core 575 memory, and that's on a 128mb card with the slower memory. I play bf1942 for hours on end...

Anything is better than my PNY G4 MX 420 PCI card w/64 SDRAM. Too bad I don't have an AGP slot...
JubJub, the ATI line of DX9 cards are suppse to play Doom 3 "oh-so-much-better" than the GF4 TI series. Granted, you might still be able to play...at 10frames per second in 800x600 res with almost no good details turned on.
Run 3DMark03 and then you'll get a taste of the Doom 3 requirements.

lol, I am on the same page as you for every single thing
... I upgraded to a ti4200 from a gf2mx400 from a tnt 2 ultra... I basically only play counter-strike but wanted the capabilities to play future games

sounds like you should get this, or a 9500/9600. you wanna play those games, and those cards will run them awfully better than a GF2. if you got teh ca$h, what are you waiting for ?!
