Like Fulle said... More people have phones, tablets, and laptops with built-in front facing cameras... Why not go to the Mobile forum and be outraged at those?

Because the conspiracy theorists in this thread are also looking to find something to bash the Xbox about.

I would say ANY cameras they can get into is a target...
Yes... So we should stop using cameras, because there's a possibility the government might tap into it.

There are cameras all over the streets, I should stop leaving my house.

It's all true lol. However if you wanted to spy on someone would you rather have a camera that's pointed right at the main location for most people showing a wide swath of landscape or a camera that most of the time is off or in someones pocket? I don't know about you but my phone doesn't have a forward camera, and my tablet well..is off most the time laying in a pile. As for laptops, sure, but they are already snooping on those and have been for years. Those are also mobile, a completely different issue for them to deal with. The whole point is console cameras in general stay put, always connected, and have technology built into them to work remotely (I mean you don't have to physically touch them to turn them on - not NSA backdoors).

If you look at the usefulness, the Xbox camera (or PS4 if you want to include it) is an easier route.

What I do find unbelievable is the people here trying to dismiss it as conspiracy and farce. That is truly funny. Those are the attitudes that have made it possible for everything that has already happened to happen. How many people no longer use Skype? I'm guessing not many stopped after it was revealed that MS was working with the government.

You THINK it's powered off, laying in a pile... That's what they want you to think! It's actually on, recording all audio in the room, and uploading to the government. Same with your phone.

You'd better get rid of them asap!

Are you suggesting that's what I'm saying? Because you're way off.

Of course not.

I just don't believe anyone is using the Kinect to spy on me. Could they? Oh, I'm sure they could.
But I'm not going to sit here and fret about all the possibilities, until there is proof.

Ok because that has nothing to do with what you quoted when you initially quoted me. It was a comment on what cameras the NSA would target. I personally don't care, but if you're (who I was quoting) going to reason that they are going to target Kinect, then you should also reason that they can target any other online camera.

What I find unbelievable are people like you who are buying into the red herring established by the government run media. The government WANTS you to think that the Kinect is the threat to our privacy. While ignorants like you are focusing on throwing away your Kinects, the government is setting up their vans with thermal cameras, wiretaps, and audio listening devices outside your house. They are sending flouride through your pipes to control your mind. They are injecting you with so-called "flu-shots" that actually control your hormone levels. They are recording your activity with their spy satellites and drones.

We, the CHUDs and the Morlocks that live in the abandoned subway tunnels underneath cities, are the only ones who have privacy. Enjoy your government controlled lives of servitude.

You guys have the internet down there now? Nice, but be careful!
Or did you just poke your head up long enough to post this?

And why post in a place where the government can see it, track it and ultimately find you? Seems like a flawed plan to me!

But it is a bit of a serious concern that the governments around the world:
a) Have broken all the security to these devices
b) That they are using that to spy on their own citizens

I don't think they understand who works for who here.

Soo..what you are saying is that all the reports of the NSA collecting phone conversations, emails, IM's and video conferences are outright lies? I mean, that's what it sounds like. So Snowden is just a liar? Our government would never spy on it's population? Ok. Then I have nothing left to say. You are clueless and deserve whatever eventually happens.

I haven't seen one legit intelligent post outside of Tweaks as to why the topic is unlikely possible. The problem with Tweaks is some of it is already being done, and others seem more likely to record phone conversations than video as well as we already have street corner cameras pretty much everywhere in larger cities that are being monitored (that's what they are there for after all). Unless MS flat out refuses (and given their history I'm going to say they won't) and the X1 gets popular enough, it will be targeted. There is no question about that. It is too juicy and easy to pass up. I know if I was in the NSA and actually had a clue about technology I'd push for it.

The responses are very like listening to the Bitcoin believers talk about how it really is a viable currency. Maybe cmdrr was right? This is the wrong forum and I expected too much.

When all of that occurs, then I'll worry about it. Until then, I choose to live my life without paranoia of what "might" or "could" happen. Because that's an endless, sorry, way to live.

Don't misconstrue my posts as someone who lives in fear. I don't disagree with you on your point. The problem is if you don't keep any eye out for things, by the time you find out it's too late. I realize 99% of us would not have anything to worry about and maybe do we even care about the other 1%, but the way things are headed, it feels like we're going to be living Minority Report sooner rather than later.

And I don't disagree with your entire sentiment here. I truly believe that giving up of liberties is a horrible idea.

But turning that discussion to the Xbox because of what "could" happen someday, is a stretch.

When did I ever accuse you of lying? You are the one not keeping an eye out for things. Do you seriously think it's not possible for the government to possess video and audio equipment and post it outside your house to keep track of your movements? Are you ignorant of the fact that the government owns satellites that have superior optical imaging than those used for Google Maps? Are you a scientist and can actually test and confirm that flouride doesn't control your mind? Can you confirm that flu shots don't control your hormone levels and therefore your behavior?

Fine, be all content in your ignorance. The only way to keep the government off your site is if you live on a self sustaining colony in the foothills. Anything less than that == no privacy.

It's already been confirmed that Skype's been spying on your conversations for years. Now Microsoft bought Skype.
