GARBAGE LAUNCH STUNVOLUME RECORD LABEL AND WILL SELF RELEASE THEIR NEW ALBUM IN THE UNITED STATES IN SPRING 2012

BAND WILL RELEASE ALBUM ACROSS THE GLOBE VIA LICENSING DEALS WITH COOPERATIVE MUSIC, LIBERATOR, SONY AND UNIVERSAL CANADA

LOS ANGELES, CA – JANUARY 23, 2012 - Garbage today announced the launch of their record label, STUNVOLUME. The band will self-release its highly anticipated upcoming studio album later this spring. STUNVOLUME will be distributed by Fontana in the United States. Around the world, Garbage will release their album on STUNVOLUME via licensing deals with Cooperative Music in Asia, Europe and Latin America, Liberator Music/The Mushroom Group in Australia and New Zealand, Sony in Japan and Universal Canada in Canada.

The band has been in the studio putting the finishing touches on their fifth studio album and their first in seven years. The new album is being recorded in a basement in the Atwater Village area of Los Angeles, CA, the first to be recorded outside of Madison, WI. The album is being produced by Garbage, engineered by Billy Bush, and mixed by Butch Vig and Billy Bush.

wow didn't know they were still together, at the first concert I ever went to (must have been 12 or 13 y/o) they opened for Smashing Pumpkins (circa Melon Colley and the Infinite Sadness album)

They had some excellent music back in the day. I assume like most bands they are more or less incapable of anything good now (examples: smashing pumpkins, U2, counting crows, pearl jam...just to name a few 90's groups that went from great to spewing crap).

Trying to make this post unhipster, but probably impossible...

If you liked Garbage back in the day, you should probably check out a band whose formula they more or less copied...

Curve

Most of their fans like Doppleganger, but I prefer the Public Fruit EP and Cuckoo.

Lots of vids up on youtube too. Really enjoyed these guys (still do, from time to time), and Toni Halliday was indeed "sex on a stick"

Edit - Coast is Clear, make sure you hear it.

Agree! Curve was the shit.

I'm really looking forward to this new album. "Beautiful Garbage" was a letdown and "Bleed Like Me" didn't sound much like their first two albums at all.

From the brief snippets they've released of their new songs, I think we'll be hearing a more "Garbage" and "Version 2.0" style of Garbage. 🙂

I saw them on that same tour and you're right it was the Mellon Collie tour.

Stupid Girl is one of my favorite 90s songs. It just has that definitive 90s sound/feel to it.

Looking forward to this. I never saw them in concert but coworker said he saw the smashing pumpkins and they open up and talk about how awesome they were. I hope to see them on tour even though they are like 100 years old.

So, you work with RichieZ?

Garbage is OK but I like the band Duke Erikson and Butch Vig started out together back in the 70s and early 80s, then the band they were in after that in the mid to late 80s. Can you name either of those Jangle Pop bands without looking it up Dennil?
