Finally getting around to upgrading my gaming pc, but im only spending about $1500
I've picked out a few items that seem to get good reviews, but I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions or changes for me.

INTEL QUAD CORE I7 2600K 3.4GHZ 8MB 4core/8Thread S1155
Price: CA$339.95

KINGSTON DDR3 HYPERX 8GB (2 x 4GB) KHX2000C9D3T1K2/8GX 2000MHZ NON-ECC CL9 DIMM XMP T1
Price: CA$212.95

ASUS ENGTX580/1536MD5 GF GTX580, PCI-E 2.0,1GB, 256BIT
Price: CA$529.95

ASUS RAMPAGE III EXTREME S1366 INT X58/ICH10R 4XPCI-E 16X 6.D.DDR3-1066MHZ 1600/1333 FSB SATA RAID, USB3.0,ATX
Price: CA$379.88

I'm also wondering what kind of power supply I may need to run this, hopefully I won't have to upgrade it as well.

I'm buying from a local place (website is www.satacomputer.com)

Ram is too high voltage SB likes 1.5v

Core i5-2500k is the BEST bang for buck cpu for gaming.

You got a 1366 motherboard for a socket 1155 CPU

I hope this was a troll post...

No, I have a complete rig that has been falling behind, so all I need to upgrade are the main bits. I have dvd+blu ray, sound card, network, harddrives etc.

If the power supply is as old as the Athlon 64, I'd recommend just replacing it. Really, you're looking at a new rig rather than a simple upgrade.

And wtf is up with prices on P67 mobos... I mean, I know they're being recalled, but still....

Because they are out of production at the moment the prices have sky rocketed and yea i figured with the CPU that old the PSU might be as well and if the case is crap might as well get a new one with his budget.... so basically a build from scratch. OP what type of monitor do you have now?

Case is an antec p190 (i think, I cant find any writing on it saying what it is)
Power supply, again I cannot see any lables on it and I don't quite want to tear apart my computer right now (im pretty sure its either 720-750 watt)
Hard drives I have a 1 Tb, a 300 gb and a failing 200 gb that is just random storage.
For dvd drives i have an LG GGC-H20L and the non blu-ray/hd dvd version of it
For monitors i have primary a samsung syncmaster 245b 24" and a Princeton vl1917, and my current desk set up means I cant get anything bigger without losing the second monitor (and I would much rather have 2 monitors then 1 big one.)

Okay, do you have a time frame you NEED to have this done by? Or could you wait for a bit?

I am in no real hurry, but I would like to have it soon since I've recently started playing new games with my friends (and can't keep up with them)

Well if you wait until march or april your motherboard will be under $200, also if you dont know the new P67 and H67 chipsets have a hardware problem where the SATAII ports will fail after a certain prolonged time of use, and from what you have it sounds like you will need more then two working SATA ports (dvd/cd hdd1, hdd2, hdd3, SSD... etc.) So you can get an 1156 Motherboard with the i5-760 OR wait for april or so for intel to release the fix.

It would be quite easy for me to drop the other harddrives other then the 1tb and the non-blu ray drive, since they are really just extras ( one is just a backup of windows xp since I was a little paranoid about updating to windows 7). Would you reccomend any pre-built systems? I have heard most are ripoffs, but occasionally there are decent deals.

At the moment i havent seen any, you can consider cyberpowerpc or some other boutique place but the OEM's at large havent gotten their sandy bridge computers out especially with the recall.

buy the stuff yourself BUT i would not get i7-950, it is a very good cpu but it's prive vs. performance ratio sucks right now, if you DONT get sandy bridge then get the i5-760.

I hear things about a sandy bridge recall, so should I buy them and risk it? They seem super cheap so its quite tempting, or should I just wait it out?

Why buy from the local place?
(nothing wrong with supporting the locals, but only if they're competitive)

Have you checked prices at Newegg.ca, Amazon.ca, or NCIX.com?

i5-2500K $228.99
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=57962&...ufacture=Intel

There are a couple of 1155 P67 boards on Amazon.ca, but not many.

For gamers, the i5-2500K is the best processor you're going to find.
If you don't find a board now...it's worth the wait.
Personally, I believe the SATA issue is way overblown and shouldn't affect MOST users...and once the board manufacturers get the updated boards in production, it's a simple task to swap boards.

You won't be risking anything if you only use 2 drives (Hard-Drive and DVD) and plug em into the SATA III connectors.

Well that seems ok. If I need to expand my harddives I can just go for external since it would be storage (rather then constant use like gaming)

I can get that processor for $9 cheaper at the local place and don't need to worry about shipping
